Check these out folks... new pics of the 2005 Mustang concept from this months Motor Trend: Still not sure what I think of it. The front end is ok, but the rear looks like the Capri (90's version), and the interior needs some work. Hopefully there's still time to make some design changes. What do you folks think? ------------------ Cheers, Ian M&M Member #395 ------------------- '79 Mustang Indy 500 Pace Car Ian's Pace Car Website Vancouver Island Mustang Association Website Indy Pace Car Registry of Mustangs Official Website "A friend will bail you out of jail after you do something stupid... a real friend will be sitting beside you saying 'That was SO COOL!!'".

I think the new design is fantastic! It captures the 'classic' design cues and muscularity of the favored ponies of the past, without getting to deeply entrenched in that all-too-current 'cutesy' retro-look, ala the new Thunderbird. The front end has a strong and attractive connection to the earlier cars, and has just the right amount of 'sneer' to look serious about its busuness. The side view is only acceptable. By doing away with the 'coke-bottle' shape,(the tops of the fenders and 1/4 panels are higher than the belt-line, or tops of the doors) the car doesn't fully capture that comfortably-familiar Mustang profile. And of course, as most have said already: The rear-end treatment is totally unacceptable. Far too reminiscient of the ill-concieved Mercury Capri of the 80's. The three-element tail-lamps were consistently one of the strongest 'personality' points of all classic Mustangs, and for some strange reason, Ford has tried mightily to get away from that concept. Not until recent years has there even been an effort to pay homage to the three-light memeory. There has not been a decent tail-lamp treatment since the 73's. Lately, Ford seems to listen pretty intently to consumer opinion, so I am hopeful, yet confident that the appearance of the rear of the car will be dramatically improved before production commences. As for the interior, they are so wide of the mark that they completely missed the target! That current fave 'cheesy' aluminum look has got to go. It doesn't fit with the 'classic' theme of the exterior design. The entire interior fails to capture the individual 'cockpit' or 'jet-fighter' feeling of the most-beloved examples of our favorite models, the BOSSs, Machs and Shelbys. The exterior of the new design is obviously not trying to capture that 'Grande' feeling, or that 6-cylinder 'Sprint' feeling, but more apparently the performance-bred personae. All in all, I think Ford will make it right, and we will all have a new 'classic' galloping around our streets again soon!

I posted some spy pics in the 2005 Mustang forum. If the spy pics are correct, the rear end will be different than the one shown on the red Mustang.Stewart
