I have a chance to get my hands on a King, and wanted to know what kind of info anyone might be able to give me. Production #'s, what they came w/, or anything you can think of.This King has an 8w/auto, t-tops, King kit(needs some repairing on the front air dam, and is a goldish/brown. I just want to make sure this is the real thing, I am 98% sure it is, but I only want to invest my time and $$$ in it if it is. Thanks, Dave "Tien" M.

I'll throw this much in....The estimated production numbers were up near 5000. Actual production was less than that, but not too much less. Most Kings came with 4-speed manuals; wasn't known until recently that *some* did have an automatic. The only way to really be sure it's a King Cobra is to check the buck tag, if it's still there. If not, you can call Ford and request a History 999 report on the vehicle. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"

So there is no differance in HP between the 302 in a II, cobraII, and the King .You would think the King would have had more than just apperance differance.

cut and paste from II.net quote:
The most expensive option seen on the Mustang since the Boss 429 engine was the King Cobra option, at $1,277. This was a special cosmetic treatment/equipment package for the SportsRoof. It included a special front air dam, the Cobra II's hood scoop and rear spoiler, wheels similar to those found on the Pontiac Trans AM, special striping and hood decal, and King Cobra identification. Mechanically, the 302 ci V-8 was standard equipment as was power steering, power brakes, heavy-duty springs, adjustable shocks, rear stabilizer bar and spoke wheels. Total units produced with the King Cobra option was a mere 4318.
