OK, i know very little about this year in the mustang history as few like to talk about it. There is a Cobra II in the paper. WSo there is the Cobra II package, that adds on the little extra body pieces, what else is different? They say it has a V-8, I know some had 302s, any other options, I swear I've seen them with 351s, but then again, i am insane. Whats a good price for them, what should I look for in one, any rare colors or options? Should I run away from them?

Well, the Cobra II was available only from '76 to '78. There isn't much different on the Cobras than the regular IIs...just mainly the extra body pieces, the stripes, and maybe some suspension. It could be had with any engine. No factory Mustang II (except maybe in Mexico?) had a 351. 302 was the biggest Ford put into any production Mustang II. It's possible to get a 351 in there though, with just a little massaging. And believe it or not, a 4-cylinder Cobra would be more rare than a V8. As for color options...white with green stripes is fairly uncommon, as is blue with white stripes (only available on '76 Cobras though). Depends what condition it's in for price...I personally wouldn't pay much more than $5K for one that's absolutely pristine. A beater...shoot...I paid $800 for the Cobra I had for a while...and it ran. Just some dull paint, 2 rust holes...nothing severe. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good" '76 Cobra--project

As IIGood said the Cobra package was basically just cosmetic. It is very easy to clone a cobra from a fast back. The only way to tell for sure is with the buck tag (a small metal tag that was attached to the radiator core support. It should be stamped CB or CBR if the car your looking at is a real Cobra II. Just from what I've seen on the Cobra IIs, it appears that unless you ordered the preformance suspension (1" front sway bar and rear sway bar) it just came with the standard front 3/4" sway bar.

I would agree with IIGood & Mike. I will add that they seem to be going up in value and becoming more desirable. I picked up my 78 Cobra for 600 complete (right place at the right time). All it really needed was paint, interior, and replacing the missing cobra II add on's. Just make sure the car you are looking at is a Cobra II. Look for the CB on the buck tag. Good luck and they are a great little car.

Then why the interest. You are asking about anything rare to look for. Sounds like you just talked yourself out of getting a MII.

I picked up my Cobra II for 400.00 with a bad engine and no rust and all new interior.Paint was dull and had incorrect stripes on it.Checked the buck tag and it is a true Cobra. My 13 year old son and I built a mexican block 302 and put in a 4 speed and repainted the car the correct black and gold.Car is really sweet and a blast to drive.
