We are installing a 302 from a '76 into a '74. We are at the point of installing the radiator. We have been told it has to be installed on the outside. How much modification needs to be done to the cowl area, or is there a different placement for the radiator, or different style radiator? In regards to the cowl, the fan blades and the fluid drive thermistate looks like they will be in the way of the cowl. We have a fan off a V6 that looks like it will bolt up and provide the proper clearance. What have other people done? Also, what have other people done about the hood latch. Any help would be appreciated. E-mail [email protected] Phone 972-625-7287

While at a glance the 74 mustang IIs look like the 75-78s, there are some minor differences. In 75 the radiator core support was changed (it curves foward instead of being straight across) to provide room for 302. As a result the hood, front facia, grill and front valance are all unique to the 74s. For what it's worth, back in my mispent youth (when I was racing V8 Pintos) I would use a cross flow radiator from 61-63 Thunderbird in front of the core support, electric cooling fans and as the hood latch had to be deleted, run hood pins.
