please help i got a 1976 ford mustang the guy i got it off of said it is a cobra but it has been painted and the cobra stukk is off of it but it has the ground effects on it and on the grill it has a cobrs on it but on the insideit has the horse on the doors and the stering wheel and the back seat lays down and on the pasanger side finder it has a mustang 2 embole on it how can i tale what i have when i ran the vin number all it says is it is a mustang 2 3-dr base is there another way for me to find out can you help me please

If your really lucky, you may still have the little metal "Buck" tag attached to the radiator core support. If you have this tag, it should show a CB or CBR code if it is a factory Cobra. You may also be able to get a copy of the original invoice (999 report) through Ford customer service. As the Cobra II was a basically a trim package (door pannel badges, stripes, spoilers etc) available with any engine/tranny combination, without documentation it is hard to verify wether or not any Cobra is a legitimite (facrory) car or not. Now a question for the rest of you. I am building what according to the Buck tag started out as a black and gold V8/4spd 77 Cobra II. It now has a modified 302, C4 and 9" rear. It will be painted red with white stripes (a combination not available on the Cobras). It will have the rear spoiler but not the front. I will also be installing a standard Mustang II interior. Is it still a Cobra???????

Yeah, what Mike said.  And Mike, yes, it's still a Cobra. If you keep the tag on there, then it's still a Cobra. If you plan on selling it at some point down the line, maybe hang on to the Cobra interior and spoiler as space permits... ------------------
