The 2-volume Mustang Performance Handbook series by William R. Mathis is a MUST HAVE for any 1979-93 Mustang owner serious about learning how to make their car better... in a straight line as well as the twisties. The first in the series deals with engine and drivetrain modifications and gives good rational for choosing correct combinations of parts. Lots of info, well layed out, pics and diagrams. Even has a section on how to port heads!

The 2nd in the series (Mustang Performance Handbook II) deals with chassis, suspension and brakes. More than just a list of parts to bolt on, there is extensive discussion/explanation on the Fox chassis, it's design and its limitations. Roll centers, suspension dynamics and cause/effect relationships are all discussed. I re-read this one every year and I always gain more and more insight into why my car handles and reacts the way it does.
