"Shorter than a Mazda Miata and weighing just more than 3,000 pounds, the Shelby Cobra concept has a 605-horsepower, all-aluminum V-10 engine mounted at the front of an advanced Ford GT-based aluminum chassis."

Just over 3000lbs is hardly lightweight.
2800lbs or less... that would be lightweight.

All I can say is it must be amazingly stiff to be so small and still weigh so much. Must be a lot of material in that chassis.

I dont want to sound like im bashing it but...

The Kit replica cars are much lighter - and in many ways I fail to see why they thought they needed to "modernise" the styling. The cobra styling looks as good now as it did in the 60's. There are plenty of big block cobras out there with less weight. They may not be "real" but they go real fast, fun to mess with in the garage and cost around $30,000 which is less than an 03 cobra mustang. this new thing must be aimed at a different market... The more money than sense market. Thats not to say its a bad car or a bad idea, but not something that ordinary people can afford.

To me the best news is that they are obviously getting excited about the V10 engine which seems really cool. Maybe in a year or two we will see a really irresposible V10 500hp Cobra Mustang to nip at the wheels of the new corvette Z06 (at 2/3 the price)

I read the BOSS351 articles in the latest late model mags and that car rocks. very low 12s on street tires, 11s on Drag radials. And no blower (which would shut up the chevy boys who whined about the 03 cobra).

Add a blower (like everything else that has come out of SVT in the last couple of years) and you have a great BOSS351 car on the new platform that could make silly power.

To me the V10 engine platform is the real news. Its the extra cubes that the mustang platform has needed for its high end SVT vehicles. I probably wont be able to afford one but as a ford follower its great news.

Exactly. A really good design is eternal. I really don't think this new Cobra is a new iconic figure as they were saying in the show. It has no 'pull' for me. I glance at it, and I don't feel a need to look closer. In comparison, at Dearborn when they had the three red, white and blue Ford GTs on the front steps of the World Headquarters, I must have spent an hour or two {Pam was totally bored! } just staring at the cars, trying to imprint every angle of them into my brain. They were intoxicating. They are totally modernized, but they still have the sex appeal of the original GT-40s.

It's ok,but I think it has a Viper flavor about it. This is what happens when you mess with a good thing.

Am I the only one that actually likes it? I mean I can see how it is a bit overdone and too modernized but thats how all concept cars are. I mean look at the '05 mustang concept's interior. It has that same way too futuristic look to it. Just being a concept you can't judge it too much, its meant to inspire and provoke a reaction from the people. Anyway I love the rear of the car, but the front does need to be toughened up a bit. And I really love that 600+ HP V-10

but the 05 concept brought back some of the original features that first appealed to the consumer in the first place. This one takes away those things. I liked the rounder body lines of the original. This one looks to boxy to me.
