Last night I was reading a sales folder from the old GT40 I got from Osborn's and one fact I read really impressed me.In 1964, at LeMans the GT40 driven by Phil Hill set the track record of 131.37, and was timed at 207 on the straights! What's even more amazing is that was with a 4.2 liter {260} engine cranking out only 375 horsepower at 7300! ------------------

More old GT40 trivia:There was a road version introduced in January 1966, and it was called '...the most expensive Ford ever.' It was priced at '5,900 English pounds plus purchase tax.' Only 31 road versions of the Mk 1 were built, 26 of those were sold overseas, mainly in the United States. It was powered by a 'detuned version of the Ford 289 which gave it a maximum speed of 164 mph.' All quotes are from the GT40 sales folder I got from Osborn Reproductions. {It's a tri-fold sheet of cardboard, but it does have some cool info.}

Those cars were AWESOME from day one. It's so cool to see styling of something stay alive {and now current! } for almost 40 years!
