Finaly found another 71 . Drove out and got it yesterday. 917 miles round trip in one day.(started about midnight. )

My hat goes off to people like Kid and KK etc who tow stuff, After I had all that weight on the back, I didn't like it at all! Towings a skill I need to practice.

Still I got it home yesterday. Today 's going to be sunny and 72. Perfect weather to go and play with my new toy. It's alittle rough, but it's within my price bracket, ( I gota stay off of E-Bay, too much temptation. ) and I allready have most of the parts I need to fix it..

Hey Steve, Could you please put the main picture onto my photo page?

Sure thing. Cool car!

Have you ever thought of making a Sport Hardtop clone? Those are cool, I'd turn my Sprint into one if it wasn't a Sprint. The Sport Hardtops had just about everything the Machs had, the grille, the scooped hood, the hockey stick stripes, etc, except on a hardtop. They're unique Mustangs that you don't see often enough. They were '71 only, so you even have the right year...

Thats what I was sort of thinking. maybe without the stripe. Just Black paint, black vynal top, and chrome everything. Mach 1 front end and grille, I allready have a mach 1 ruber bumper and extra ramair hood, just need to get the grille...

Glad to hear ya got it home, Dave.
There's a kid around here who's going the sport hardtop route with his '73 coupe. I gave him the extra ram-air hood I had laying around, he's getting it painted with the blackout and ordering the hockey sticks. I think it's gonna look cool.

Could you double-check your sources on these numbers? I was under the impression they were very common.

It's just a litlle ol coupe. Nothing all that rare about it. It has the usuaul problems in the usual places..

It does have tilt weel, the tach ,and gages, and it used to have A/C, and the privious owner allready put on an edlelbrock four barrel.

So Now I can atack the rust and then make it look the way I want to. .

Dave,
please tell me part of that plan is to paint the motor.
I can't believe the guy went to the trouble to install an intake and chrome valve covers and he didn't even paint the rusty exposed ends of the cylinder heads! I know you'll have it looking great in no time.

If push comes to shove, the coupes must be sacrificed! It's not pleasant, but there's just no other affordable or concourse or whatever you call it way to keep the fastbacks and convertibles alive.
If I were you, I'd restore the heck out of it (trim wise, interior wise, etc.), planning one day to retire it gracefully and transfer everything to a fastback.
I have two coupes in really nice condition outside right now, alongside three fastbacks that need all kind of help after years of racing, patching up, all kinds of abuse, so ... enjoy it for now, and always think of it as a step to somewhere even better
P.S.: "Rare" sometimes means very little in car terms. Anyone ever seen that economy version of the '69 sportsroof? How much would one really fetch? And as I've always said, 20 years from now, some of the coupes will be rare as hen's teeth, but not necessarily valuable.

Simon,
Right on!
I've argued this point with lots of people over the years. It's one of one! It's rare! It's valuable!
The reason its 'one-of-one' is that it was ugly and undesireable back then, and its still ugly and undesireable now. Rarity doesn't always mean desireable!
