I was just wondering if anybody is in or around the KC area? My wife is a district manager and I think they are going to offer her a job in the KC market. I was wondering if anybody could give me an idea of some good areas to look for a house with a good school system as my son will be starting K this year. She will have both KS and MO so either state would be fine. Is there any advantages from one state to the other. I live in NY now so I am used to getting killed in taxes etc. Thanks for any input. Bill

I'm a lifelong Kansas City resident........ except for the 13 years I was in the Navy from 1987-2000. After I got out, we moved back "home". I actually live in a town called Grandview....pop. 24,000 + or -, which is a suburb about 5 miles south, 1 mile north and 4 miles west of Kansas City. The KC city limits pretty much surround us. Kind of strange, but KC is big.

My wife and I grew up here in Grandview and our families still reside here, but I would not recommend living in Grandview now. It has changed, and I'm sure when you start looking for houses, the realtors will recommend you live north or on the Kansas side.

Shoot an email to me at [email protected] and I'll give you the skinny and where to look for housing, the GOOD schools, taxes, etc etc. I can be your "virtual" realator as I'm sure when you get serious about looking for a house, you'll have a realator on your side to tell you the things I'll tell you. Let me know what you do for a living, and I'll steer you in that direction as well. Look forward to hearing from you.
Craig

P.S.
I have a friend here in KC who is a Torino fanatic. He has 4 or 5 Torinos from 1969-1971....a 'vert, a couple of big blocks etc. He also has 2 Boss 302's (a '69 and a '70), a 70 GT350, 2 '70 Mach 1 Twisters (a 351 and a 428). He also has an '86 Capri McLaren, a Cobra kit car with a 427, a couple of odds and ends '69-'70 Mach 1's just "sitting around", and more parts than you can shake a stick at. By looking at all of his cars, you wouldn't think that his true love is the Torino, but it is. He's a pilot and I haven't seen him in a while, but judging from your user name, I'm sure you'd like to get aquainted with him.

Awesome Thanks a lot. I am sure I will have to make a trip down there before we buy so we can get an idea. I also got a guys number I am calling today to get the low down on the area also he has lived there his whole life. Basically the only major thing I really need is a BIG garage and a good school for my son. I am trying to figure out how I am going to get 4 cars there if we have to make the move.

Your buddy sounds like quite the collector with some nice cars and I would love to see them sometime if we get down there perminately.

I also live in the KC area. Grew up in KCKs, and have moved west - out in the country between Bonner Springs, Leavenworth, & Tonganoxie on the Kansas side. I'm actually 7 miles straight west of Kansas Speedway. Sounds further out than it is - 30 minutes to downtown, the airport, Lawrence, etc. Lots of new housing around.

Plenty of good schools around in all directions. I'd look real hard at where she will need to commute to. Some areas of KC have persistent commuting headaches / traffic problems. I70 from the east, and I35 from the south can be "interesting" some mornings, as well as the infamous "Grandview Triangle" (but it's getting better). I went west, as I70 eastbound in the mornings is pretty quick. I drive 25 miles each way in about 25 minutes...

BTW, I know submariner's buddy - sold him a nice Cougar several years ago. A trip to his place in Kearney is VERY worthwhile - some neat stuff.

I need to give him a call and catch up. I'm not sure what he has as far as cars go right now, but a couple of years back, just walking through his garage(s) almost made me ill. He's the nicest guy and is super friendly! At least you now know you've got contacts here in KC!

He was really a good guy to talk to. He said he has got rid of a few of the cars he had a while back, the McLaren and one of his Twisters for sure.
