I bought my wife a little creative labs one from kmart for about $50 bucks. 256 megs and it doubles as a thumb drive. She has the cassette adapter that plugs into the headphone of the player and the other end looks like a cassette tape. works great.------------------ "It's better to have loved a short girl, Then never to have loved a tall" http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang

There used to be only one unbeatable mp3 player - the ipod. Competition has caught up and you now see Apple moving downmarket (the mini and the flashmemory based 'shuffle') to keep and increase their market share. I've been a happy Ipod user for a few years now. Just this saturday I bought another (6 gig Ipod Mini) and gave my previous gen ipod to my sister. If $ is a concern, take your time evaluating all the competing products - they've managed to offer products that are the same size (physical and storage) as the Apple offerings, sometimes for significantly less $. Creative and Samsung are 2 brands to check out. You'll get more storage (= more songs) from mini hard drived based players, but flash memory will be cheaper. If you do go the Ipod route and are considering an Ipod Mini, you are much better off getting a regular ipod for what ends up being the same amount. Lemme explain: 6 gig Mini (what I just bought) $249 - but that does not include a charger (they include the USB cable, which also serves to charge your mini when its connected to yr pc)) - so if you want a charger, add $30 - which brings you into the 10 gig Ipod range ($299) - which includes the charger. 4 more gigs for $20. Memory wasnt as much a concern as physical size and thats why I bought a Mini. Apple has come a long ways for windows users, originally the ipod was Mac only, and they used a horrible 3rd party software for their 'converted' windows units. Their iTunes is now windows friendly and is painlessly easy to use. Good luck.

I just bought a Creative Labs Nomad Jukebox ZEN with 20 GB of memory.. It was on ebay for $75 and it's great.. I am going to store ALL MY MUSIC so that it won't be taking up valuable space on my Hard Drive.. I also have to CD Players in 2 of my vehicles that are MP3/CD Players.. I record all my own CD and I'll put 50-100 songs on each CD when I record MP3.. Thats what you can do with them.. ------------------ Don 6T6 Fastback 331 STROKER, T-5 Royal Blue Metallic w/SoonToBeNewAndImprovedFlames My Photo Page First Time out.. 13.384 sec @ 103.388 mph

I'm not sure which ones if any have outputs compatable with what car stereos. That would kick butt though! I don't download a darned thing, just copy mostly my own CDs partially due ot my dial up connection A CD will hold a couple hundred songs at 128 KBPS which sounds just like the old CD Wave format to me, so I'd settle on a walkman which plays MP3 CDS you can slide into your car at the end of the day.

Thats already available - you can buy wireless fm transmitters that plug into the headphone jack of your mp3 player. They're $30-$40. I believe you can also still find the cabled cassette adapters too.

I downloaded a bunch of MUSIC on to my MP3 player last night.. Deleted close to 1GB of music that was on my computer.. Now I don't have to go looking for CDs,, it's all sorted by Song,Artist,Album, Genre.. I am going to down load every CD I own.. The 20GB ZEN Jukebox should hold at least 5,000 songs.. By the way.. The reason I went with Creative Labs was because all reviews of their products were either as good if not higher rated than iPods.. Nexttag.com is a good place for reviews on any electronics you are thinking of purchasing.. Even if a product line has a good name,, some models aren't well thought of.. ------------------ Don 6T6 Fastback 331 STROKER, T-5 Royal Blue Metallic w/SoonToBeNewAndImprovedFlames My Photo Page First Time out.. 13.384 sec @ 103.388 mph [This message has been edited by Big D (edited 03-30-2005).]

Something to think about....if your player is lost/stolen, will you be able to replace all those tunes? I have all my music in 3 different places right now so that if a drive crashes, I'll just copy it back over. Just a thought...

I have well over 6 Gig worth of downloaded stuff on here. Some I've burned onto cd, most not. WMP says I've got over 65 hrs worth of music to listen to. Then right behind me, I've got the cd tower that holds 620 cds. I've got a couple other smaller towers. I need another. Hey, I like music. Oh yeah, I download a lot of music, but I do believe that if I like it enough, I should buy the cd. However, I don't EVER pay mall prices.
