We had a great night considering the last couple of weeks bowling. We took 5 out of 7 points. Some how I managed to pull off another 500 series game. Scores: 157, 190, 159 = 506. Learned a couple of more things about the ACE. It needs less power not more to hit the pocket. Also figured out how to pick up that dang 10 pin with it. Carole will have to fill you all in on what she did.

Must have been that Carl Edwards driving the wheels off of the 99 car. Gotta like that kid. He's great and an aswesome choice to take over where Mark Martin will leave off.

As for the bowling, well I can't help you there Sam. Maybe bowl a little less, like one or two leagues less.

Sam,
After the first game tonight, I was ready to join you in the ebay sale of bowling equipment. I had a lousy first game, but I recovered nicely in the last 2 games.

114-204-200=518

I was finally able to pick up some spares and not suffer from splits in the last 2 games. Not bad for someone with a 142 average!

Thanks, Dave. What's sad is you are right, one of my teammates did light a fire under my a$$, but once he started raggin' me, his game went into the gutter, literally! His night looked like this:

179-106-150=435

Best of all, I did it without the black jeans! I wore blue jeans instead!

I can read a lane like a book and adjust.
If I roll one more 497 I going to drive to the James River Bridge and dump these dang balls overboard!

Splits..leave a 4-7-10 adjust and leave a 6-7-10,buty the ball in the pocket and leave a 4-9 or a 6-8..and this is with any ball I use!

148-194-155,,I give up this is 3 400 sets in a row

LOL..oh well there's always tomorrow nite huh

Sounds like you are bowling like I normally do! It's just a bad week. You are going to shake it. We all hit slumps. Heck, my usual game is what most peopel would call a slump!

Sam,
I don't know what to tell you about your game. I haven't watched you bowl in awhile. Sorry.
I didn't expect a 500 series game this week. But I did learn a few things about the my new ball and using a wrist brace. I bought one of the Blue Masters wrist/hand braces and found that I get better reaction from the ball on the back end. I also learned to move over a board from where I would through it with out the brace. I was also trying to put to much power in the ball. The ACE doesn't need power. Just a nice roll and let the ball do all the work. The last thing I learned was how to pick up that dang ten pin with the ACE. That made my night when I picked up twice. Between making the right adjustments and picking up my spares, my game is much better. Next it's time to learn to string a few more strikes together.

Damn you guys are killin me here. Sam you have a good excuse though. Bowling too much and knowing what to do but not being able to execute it. I suffer from that same thing. Since I have been trying to teach myself how to not whack the cover off the ball, and also have this new thing in the Track Arsonal, I have picked up my average by 8 pins in 4 weeks!!!! New equipment I guess will do that for ya. Knowing I am on 9-10 which is my absolute best pair in the house, Im looking to kill em this week. I really am going to be suprised if I dont put 3 strong games together.

Here is my advise...... like you need it... Relax, and throw the damn ball!!!! LOL Thats what I tell my team when they are struggling. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesnt.

Dave, I have learned that its not about the power you put into it, its about how consistent you can throw the ball in your release. If you can do the same thing most of the time, I bet you can be 550 or better.

Greg, are you throwing a straight ball, or hooking the lights out of it like the rest of us goofs?????

Tony

Tony,

My lead off ball is an Ebonite Vortex V2. I mainly throw straight, but I'm starting to understand the hook in it.

Thanks Guys..your insight just might be the ticket.
Tony I am burnt out a little since City tournament...

I think one of the major problems is the mind,if I could get it to work a frame sooner things will improve..I could roll and board I wanted to tonight used all three balls in game one

I am going to have a new ball drilled up this summer looking at MoRich Weapon of Mass something or other..LOL
Sis-n-Law has a new one and really like the roll and hook to it..if not that then an Ace..really likes Daves,,but I gotta have some more "turn" drill into it..LOL..

nite Guys..

Greg, good bowling.

I'm a straight ball roller. There is a tiny bit of a hook at the end, but that's about it. The reason I had a great third game is that I took OFF my glasses and kept them off. I figure if using my "blind" is better than what I'm rolling, I may as well bowl blind. Actually, since I wear bi-focuals, taking the glasses off makes me feel closer to the lane and makes me reach for my mark.

Sam,
Glad to be a help/support team member. I had been trying to crank up the power on the ACE since that is what John, who drilled my ball, told me to do. Since I have slowed it down, it has a lot more hook on the back end. Still have some work to do on the release. But as Tony said consistency will be the best thing for me.

Carole,
You need to take your glasses off from the very begining of frame 1, game 1. We are bowling the number 1 team next week. Should be fun.

Thanks, Carole. It's taken me about a year to fullly figure out this V2. I found if I make my delivery from the second dot from the right, it will usually hook just about the pocket.

And Sam, I hope you do well tonight! Either that or please do not stop at Wal-Mart on your way home tonight!

Carole,
Sam is correct. Get a little heavier ball that won't deflect as much with a mild curve on the back end. You will love it once you get a handle on it. Go see John at Dynamic Orbs. He is the one that drilled up my ACE. He knows what he is doing and he won't do you wrong. Just my $0.02 worth.

Dave I think all the centers are trying to use up what oil they have left before the end of the season..LOL
I have had some of the best in the Center look at me and they dont see a thing wrong with me onthe approach or at release..the just shake their heads and look at the split I throw with a clean pocket hit.

Larry watched every ball I rolled tonioght and report back to me on what he saw..he shook his head so much he got dizzy.. looking at the pins I would leave..LOL

I'll work it out its something small like hand release or speed on the approach..I'll be at Sparetime so I can see the ball speed and play with it..
All else fails I have a #15 3/4 XXX Factor setting around here just need to go to WalMart for some A$$ to roll it..LOL

Sam you actually made me think of something. What weight stuff are you throwing? For that matter, What is everyone throwing????

I had always thrown 16lb stuff. Specifically as close to illegal as can be depending on the scale. Thats after adding the 4th hole!!!!! I always thought its what you need to carry. Until I got this second 15lb ball I never would believe it hits harder, and I can be more accurate with it. Id a said you were whacked if you told me that. I fully believe that the less weight is now the way to go. Carole, I suspect you are not throwing a heavy ball at all, though I could be wrong.

Sam since you are looking to get something else new AGAIN, be different. Wait until something new comes out or try something that totally shouldnt work!!!!! Thats what always works for me.

Looking forward to my own self abuse tomorrow.......

Ok, here's what I carry:

15# Vortex V2 Particle (My lead-off ball)
15# Vortex (Older ball, I don't use it very much any more)
15# Stinger Purple Pearl (I use this one the night is completely wasted. I can usually milk 1-2 strikes out of it.)
14# Ebonite ball from Sport's Authority/Modell's, etc. (My spare ball)

Tony,
Good point on the ball weight. I was also in the school of the heavier the ball the better. But not so much now. I have three bowling balls:

Storm X Factor ACE 15# - good on med - hev oil.
Storm Flash Force 15# - good on med oil.
Columbia 15# - my spare ball.

I've finally learned how to pick up the ten pin with the X Factor Ace and haven't used my spare ball. I'm also using a Masters hand and wrist brace now. I had to move my starting mark over a few boards left since using the wrist brace, but I'm still hitting my original mark on the release. Much better ball reaction on the back end with a nice steady roll. I don't need to power up the ball as I once thought. Now I just need to keep the same approach, release and ball speed. Next week should tell the tale.

I personally havent used a wrist brace in about 6 years. Though some nights I should. For spares, I have gotten really good at taking the ball and throwing it dead straight. For 10 pins, I line up on 30 and throw at about board 23. If I turn it, I'll miss every time!!!! I would always take the band off when I was going to throw at spares when I was wearing it.

Tony,
Monday night was the first time that I had the brace on for all three games. It helps keep me from twisting my hand over the ball and sending it way off to the left. Did even better with the spares just by making the appropriate adjustments on the approach. For the ten pin, I'm standing about four boards to the left of the farthest arrow and throwing across the lanes. To much and it's in the gutter. Other wise, it's dead on.

The newer ball are so powerfull that the heavy 15 pounders will leave pins and splits. Most of the better bowlers now use 15 to 15-8 or even a heavy 14.

One of the biggest problems with the new ball is you must keep them clean or they will "die"..be sure to wipe them down good and wash them at least every 3rd set.Use warm water and Dawn,,just let it soak,if you have inserts for finger tip balls dont get them in the water.

I have problems with 10 pins, they keep moving on me..never where I toss the ball

Carole you need to move up to the year 2005

Went over to Sam's side of the water last night to watch him bowl. He did better and managed to win a few points! After league, Sam, Peg, Terri and I all went and bowled three more games at a different bowling center.
I learned that my ACE can make a left turn with out trying. Learned that ball speed with the Storm bowling balls can be critical. Slow the ball down and it hooks like crazy on the back end. Speed it up for less curve. Now all I have to do is remember all this stuff I have picked up this week.

ROTFLMAO!!!

Yes, Sam. You are a glutten for punishment when it comes to bowling. You can blame me for that extra bowling last night. It was my idea. But as always, it's great to spend time with you and Peg. We always have fun.

Well, the team we bowl next will be giving us almost 90 pins per game. Their lowest average is a 172 Somebody remind me to take my glasses off before we start game one and leave them off till it's time to go home On the good side, I had the third highest scratch game this week for ladies. (We won't mention those two practice games.)

Carole,
Terri has a note about you leaving your glasses off prior to starting the practice bowling. No worries there. We will also be bring John's B-day gifts with us. Ought to be fun. Nothing bad. We promise. LOL Should we bring cup cakes or brownies and lots of candles??? WELL maybe not lots of candles. We don't want to burn the lanes down.
