It was now my '93 5.0 'vert's turn for testing. I showed up and went through the routine. Pimple boy number 1 ran it through the test. Popped the clutch in first and nearly launched off the dyno, spun the clutch in second giving way too much gas and feathering the clutch. These tests have the driver run through a preprogrammed rpm graph. If the driver starts deviating from the graph the arrow goes yellow, and then red. Too many red arrows and the test is aborted. At the end of the test the rpms ramp down pretty rapidly, and he couldn't slow her down (ironic huh? ). So he failed (test aborted). So he calls pimple boy #2 from the control room. I guess they can't run the test twice with the same driver. So he runs through the paces, with much better clutch control. Still failed the end part. Apparently they tried to blame it on brakes according to the guy that was behind me in line.

So they had to revert to a constant 2500 rpm test. I was 200% under any of the requirements.

What a waste of $14. Anyway, I'm good for another 2 years.

Its just as much of a pain in Illinois, but at least there is no fee for our testing.

I'm glad we don't have to deal with that foolishness.

You know, Dave, the more I hear about Maryland's VEIP program, the more I want to move to St. Mary's County to avoid it!

Not a smog test, but your description of Pimple Boy mad me laugh so hard it reminded me of my alignment of my 67 Stang this past weekend. Pimple boy set up the machine started adjustments then started the engine while it was on the alignment rack. I was sort of curious as I'm not really up on alignment procedures, but then I see him flicking the steering wheel back and forth and watching the computer screen. It finally dawned on me that I don't think he's ever seen a car with manual steering

I sure am glad I now live in St MAry's county. That testing is a real pain. It's just another tax!

Last year when I took the GT through, I had no problem. Now both the GT and the truck are due next year. I can't wait to see what they say about that truck when it's turn is due.

I'm going to write my congressman and tell him to raise the pay on our testers enough that pimple boy looses his job due to stiff competition before I have to go!
