Hi. My name is Sam and I have a bowling problem. LOL

Glad you are having fun bowling Sam. Sounds like a marathon bowling tournament this past weekend. Not sure if I could make it through all that. No wonder your fingers are looking bad. But it was well worth it from the sounds of things.

Lets hope that there is some oil on the lanes tonight.

EVERYTHING I'VE LEARNED ABOUT LIFE, I'VE LEARNED FROM BOWLING

The message was originally compiled by Paul Kreins of BowlingMarketing.com, who sent it out as his special Holiday message, and we asked if we could use it as a special Thanksgiving message for our Cyber Report readers. We volunteered to come up with 10 new items for the list at some future date, and he quickly said, "Yes." So, without any further ado, here's the list, which is full of life -- and bowling -- messages. We think you'll enjoy it.

We all have handicaps.

Some people are honest in bowling yet cheat in life, but anyone who cheats in bowling, cheats in life.

Even though you might not be the best bowler, you can always be the best that you can be.

Success and failure are both temporary.
Success is a lot more temporary.

Although practice does not always make us perfect, no practice always makes us imperfect.

No matter how good you are, there is always someone better, and that person will usually find you and tell you.

When you are good, you can tell people; but when you are great, they will tell you.

Patience is a virtue, slow bowling is not.
Don't touch other people's equipment.

Choose your teammates wisely.

Always keep a good grip on things.

If you keep trying, you'll eventually hit something.

The best always make it look effortless.

It's sometimes more fun when you don't keep score.

Good form always prevails in the long run.

There are different strokes for different folks.

You can always improve.

Stay out of the gutter.

Life is like a roll of toilet paper. The closer it gets to the end, the faster it goes.

We should be glad God doesn't give us everything we ask for.

Money doesn't buy talent or class.

It's the little things that count.

The Lord didn't do it all in one day. What makes me think I can?

To ignore the facts does not change the facts.

The easiest way for me to grow is to surround myself with people smarter than I am.

Opportunities are never lost; someone will take the ones you miss.

One should keep his words both soft and tender, because tomorrow he may have to eat them.

A smile is an inexpensive way to improve your looks.

Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain, but all the happiness and growth occurs while you're climbing it.

The less time we have to work with, the more things we get done.

It is best to give advice in only when it is requested.

It's the follow-throu

Bowling Balls Come in Different Scents

Mon Mar 14, 9:53 AM ET Strange News - AP

By CARRIE ANTLFINGER, Associated Press Writer

MILWAUKEE - Odors associated with bowling traditionally include smelly feet, cigarette smoke and beer. But what about grape, amaretto and cherry? One bowling ball manufacturer ? Storm Products Inc. ? is putting fruit and other popular scents into its mid- to high-end bowling balls, resulting in a steady increase in sales.

More than half the bowlers on the Professional Bowlers Association tour last year used them, including four-time PBA champion Ryan Shafer.

Shafer, who has a contract with Storm, said he may have won a match two years ago in Kansas City because an opponent was distracted by his black licorice-scented ball.

"He asked me if I had to use that ball and I said, 'Yes, this ball is working' ... and I think that is why I won," he said.

Storm Products' first scented balls ? green apple and citrus ? came out in the spring of 2000. Since then, the company has produced about 40 scents. The current scents are black cherry, chocolate, lemonade, plum, blueberry, grape, banana, cinnamon, orange, amaretto and cherry.

"It's just a real good feature of our equipment that gets the average consumer really hooked on our stuff," said Steve Kloempken, technical director for Storm Products Inc.

These aren't balls you currently find in your corner bowling alley, but they're often in the bags of professional or league bowlers.

Most scents can't be smelled until they are within two or three inches of your nose, although some have stronger odors.

Brigham City, Utah-based Storm, the fourth-largest bowling ball manufacturer, has a patent pending on the scented balls, which cost $150 to $250. Storm's president and chief executive officer, Bill Chrisman, used to work with cleaners and knew that people associated scents with particular cleaners, so he decided to try it on bowling balls.

The more popular fragrances, which are added in the liquid used to create the ball's 1- to 1 1/2-inch shell, include cherry, citrus and chocolate.

"We haven't found one yet that has lost its scent," Kloempken said.

The company also is considering putting the scents in its lower-end balls that turn up in bowling alleys.

Neil Stremmel, research director for the United States Bowling Congress in Greendale, Wis., bowling's regulatory body, said most bowlers don't use the balls for scent or color, but for their performance ? such as if they curve a certain way.

But, "I like the smell of my grape ball," he said.

"It's a secondary thing for the upper echelon or top bowlers," Stremmel said. "I could see newcomers or average bowlers, you know, getting into it for that reason because it's cool or they think somebody might think it's cool."

The scents can help bowlers' concentration, since many bring the ball near their nose at the lane, Kloempken said.

"It gets into a natural part of the routine for a lot of the bowlers," he said. "It gets them in a certain frame of mind."

Joe Cerar Jr., owner of Wisconsin's largest bowling retailer, Bowler's Pro Shop in Milwaukee, attests to that. Cerar said his peppermint-scented ball helped him last year when he competed in the PBA Senior Tournament.

"I felt more calm and relaxed," he said. "I went from nervous to calm and I was smelling the peppermint."

Cerar's shop has 15 different scented balls and he said the smell makes a difference when someone chooses between two balls of the same price.

"On a fringe customer who is undecided, it's sometimes a determining factor," Cerar said.

Two people, of thousands, have told him they wouldn't buy a ball because of the scent, he said.

John Petroff, 46, of Milwaukee, was in the shop recently to order cinnamon- and amaretto-scented balls. He has 10 to 20 balls, which include cinnamon apple, wintergreen, blueberry and peppermint scents.

He doesn't pick them just for their scent, he said, but that doesn't hurt.

"The bag does smell better especially when you have four or five of them," Petroff said.

Dave do your Balls smell

You know there is a lot of truth in what you've said there, Sam.

Anyway, in my continuing efforts to have myself declaired legally insane, I got off a cross-country flight and went straight to the bowling alley for leagues. It wasn't my worst night ever, but by the third game my arm was jello!

146-176-129 = 437

I managed to win one out of three, so I'll take that!

Monday night was ugly. Missed way to many spares and couldn't get things working in a string either. May go get some practice in tomorrow. We shall see.

I also agree: Why do we pay for this self abuse???

What killed me last night was splits. The first game I was starting to develop a groove and the second I was starting to really get it going, since I had a 102 by the fifth. I was just getting way too tired. I probably should have gone straight home from the airport, but since I seem to love self-abuse as much as everyone else in this thread. By the third game, I was worthless. I really need to take some time and go up and get some pratice in.

We had a strile fest going tonight

Lost the 1st game by 21 sticks with 2 fellow on the other team shooting 279 and 267.

Game 2 we came back and won by 42 sticks but took an arse whooping when 3 of them shot over 250,one fellow ran the line till the 11th frame and didn't carry the 10 pin for a 289.

I shot 203-200-190 for a 593

After my man rolled 279 in game one I took him total..he went into the crapper the next two games

Oh they had to give 93 pins head start..LOL
they had ZERO handicap for 5 men

Cold balls and cold shoes. Yep Im famalier with that!!!!!! They warm up after about 5 minutes though!!!!! Tonight we get lanes 5-6 against the 1st place team. Hpefully some of my team actually bowls worth a crap tonight. Shooting 230+ and losing by less than 10 pins sucks!!!!!

Sam, If you cant have fun, why bother the self abuse, right???

Well I had a just miserable night. 5-6 just wouldnt carry a damn thing for me and I had left 13 9 counts and 3 splits in the first 2 games. At least I was able to convert all but 1 7 pin. The 3rd game I got it figured out and went X / X / X X X X X X and THEN MY BALL WOULDNT COME BACK!!!!!! 15 minutes later it gets returned from the back. Turns out that the dam ball jumped clear out the back and rolled down behind all the machines 14 lanes over. Fortunatly the ball was ok, but damn that pissed me off, cost me money and a possible 260 game. I end up going 8- for a 246. 165 and 183 were the other 2 for a great 594. If I ever put 3 great games together look out. At least Im on my favorite pair in the house next week. 9-10 Im looking for something big there.

I had two lane so different last nite that the if you hit the 10 board on the right one it would not make it back to the head pin and if you did the same on the left one you cross over and hit the 1-2

So I just had fun..again..140-190-160 but we won 15 1/2 points out of 24,,good thing the other 3 bowlers on the team rolled straight balls

Anyone with a hook had the same problem..maybe that why we won
