I went to the hospital about a week and a half ago for a funky growth on my foot. Doc said it was "proud flesh" - tissue that grows out from a wound when the skin doesn't heal around it fast enough.

Anyhow, he sliced it off and cauterized it with silver nitrate, but obviously didn't do a good enough job, because it's growing back.

I have a blowtorch and could probably find some steel rod...

Never having heard of "proud flesh" before, I just had to find out! According to this URL ...
http://www.equisearch.com/care/treatment/eqhumble530/
... cauterizing is NOT the recommended course of action, at least not if you're a horse. It also says proud flesh often refuses to give up easily, so you just have to keep going at it.

Well, that's pretty much how the doc explained it to me too. Never mentioned anything about horses, though.

I had never heard of it either. It's growing in between my toes- looks like a 6th toe growing in. I guess I'm just a mutant freak now.

That article is right about it bleeding. Bleeds like a faucet was turned on if I poke at it.

I could write one of the funniest books you ever read about bad luck, but it would probably never get published.

Have had silver nitrate used before. The way the dr said it worked was by melting (burning) the skin. Hurt like a SOB when it got to the good skin. Was begining to think he was demented for using it the way it started to burn. Sounds like you need to get a 2nd on this one.

I had a wart on my index finger once, I tried getting rid of it 3-4 times using Compound W. It would go away for a while, then come back. One day I was doing some brazing and I saw that wart and said to myself "WTF." I sizzled that baby off and twenty years later all I have is a tiny dimple there.

Actually, it's not. Just annoying. When the doc sliced it off, I couldn't even tell until I felt the blood dribbling down my foot. I felt the silver nitrate, but it didn't hurt. (didn't help either, obviously)

You remember tat scene from Rambo III? Rambo had an arrow hole in his rib cage, What did he do? Pulled the arrow out, poured fuel in the wound and lit! Presto cauterized wound!
