Story in Tampa Newspaper Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice?????? Think about it . .
All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break. Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over back-wards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that. This says it all! This is an editorial written by an American citizen, published in a Tampa newspaper He did quite a job; didn't he? Read on, please!
IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT. I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct! " crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others. I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants. However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity. As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom. We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part of our society, learn the language! "In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan.. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture. If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really don't care how you did things where you came from. This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so! But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE. Just a personal foot-note from myself (johnmustang), these are also the problems we are facing in Canada and these problems are going to ruin both countries. Why is it that the bleeding hearts can wield so much power that the rest of us do nothing about it? They have trained us to be there little silent lap dogs, so we do not offend anybody , but those people who offend us and cry "RACIST" every time something does not go there way seem to be able to do so with impunity. As far as I am concerned, learn to adapt, keep your ethnicity and be proud of it but you must adapt to the ways of the new country you have come to, if you do not then you will ruin it and eventually destroy it like you have done to your own country of birth, if you do not want to adapt, then "GET THE HELL OUT". These are just my own personal views and thoughts on this ever growing problem, flame me if you want but at least I will speak up and say what I feel and believe, is that not what democracy is all about? The immigrants have the right to do so, so why can`t I? ------------------ JOHN 65 FASTBACK 2+2.....14.44 @ 107mph 1/4 87 TAURUS WAGON 03 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4 SHORT BOX Member:Vancouver Island Mustang Association M&M #1710 65 FASTBACK 2003 F150 XLT SUPER CREW 4X4

I certainly know where you're coming from. I hail from the new Immigrant Central, the southeast coast of England, and my own views have hardened dramatically in just a few short years. But in America (I don't know about Canada) I think there's another ingredient you have to throw into the mix. It's not just new immigrants vs. long-term stayers. It's everyone else coming down on the white heterosexual male. It was Mike Royko, that legendary Chicago columnist, who first opened my youngish eyes to the notion that you could say anything you like about a white American heterosexual male, while that same fella had to keep his lip buttoned for fear of the PC police knocking his door down. Here's just one recommendation of many that I can make. If America truly wants to be a melting pot (I don't think it is, not compared with Brazil where ethnic groups mix far more), it should dump this whole notion of "national" pride - referring to the country or continent of origin. Forget Italian American, forget Chinese American, and above all forget African American. Call yourselves Americans. Your ethnicity should be a whole different issue. And frankly speaking, if African Americans find it offensive to be called Blacks, ask then if they've ever met an African Englishman, or an African Frenchmen - or an African Brazilian! Such PC constructs don't even exist, because others simply don't see the need for them.

Good point... i've seen people struggle to come up with a term for black folks in Canada. Most of ours are from Haiti and other Carribean nations. Haitian Canadian? Hardly... that's like calling any white guy a Scotsman without finding out. Would a tourist from Trinidad be called African American? Negro is probably more politically correct than making an assumption they are either African or American. I live in a place where Cantonese will probably become the official language within a few years. Certainly "speak the language or get the hell out" crosses peoples minds fairly often. I doubt we'd be better off if they did. The economy thrives with the influx of new money. (the "Dennis Leary" post wasn't up when i replied) [This message has been edited by TomP (edited 11-10-2004).]

Woa. Now everyone lets play nice.We just gotta be patient with our immigrant brothers. My Italian Great Grandparents relied on my Grandparents to translate for quite a few years and there were heck of hardships in the local schools. But to agree, English should be preferred by the state for the sake of simplicity. I think that bit about public displays of religion being discouraged is just to keep my religion from displaying anything come the holidays. Imagine a big peace sign in front of the Pentagon this Christmas. Denis, in reference to when it was first celebrated I'm kinda fuzzy on the origin of Christmas. I know Christians took over/modified a few Roman holidays and remember reading something which said 12/25 did not make much sense, but its all sooo fuzzy.

What I find funny locally is a sign out front of the MacDonald's announcing in Spanish "Help Wanted".Now if they can only communicate in Spanish there maybe a problem at the Drive-Thur.

toronado, you crack me up. coming in saying "whoa!" like theres something controversial about the first 3 posts. as far as the peace sign goes, i memorized luke 2 in grade school, the christmas story. "peace on earth, good will to men." hey a peace sign at christmas wont have the Christians crying to the aclu to sue everybody and their ancestors for hurting their tissue thin feelings. Bible doesnt say anything about december 25th, but since it should be celebrated anyway im not gonna complain or go to hell because the roman catholics got the wrong date. people get so caught up in religion when all the religion in the world dont impress God. a lot of religious scholars lack faith. dont get the two of them confused. the first posts are dead on. people are tired of having this country torn down and its history "revised" by arrogant, politically correct pansies. ------------------ coupe, 306, 4 speed, 4.11's. pump gas, n/a street car. best so far is 7.48 (1/8 mile) at 93mph with 1.64 60ft. 11.80 at 113 on greased 1/4 track.
