Mike usually gets a $25 gift certificate. YIPEE! My bonus varies from year to year. Just found out the corporation will give full time employees $450, plus another $80 from my department. Not huge, but appreciated. We also received a nice quilted blanket, a $15 Media Play gift cert. Tomorrow night is the big employee Christmas dinner.What do your bosses contribute to your holiday? J.

My company charges $7.00 a person to attend their Christmas party. It would be ok if they donated it to a food pantry,but they keep it. No bonus for me. Never did,never will. I'm lucky that I can pick my vacation time. One department has forced vacation time,up to 4 weeks,with a June 1 to September 30 blackout. My boss' contribution to the company? He consumes payroll. I don't work outside the home anymore (since 1990)..but when I did I got a very nice e.o.y bonus...They also had a company dinner as well as taking the office personnel out for lunch...and the sales personnel would do that in February (when things slowed down a bit...) They started my first year at $100.00 and added $100.00 each year...I left in September ...would have drawn $1,100 that year...but was glad to give it up to get out of there... I loved my job, but they let 4 girls go and we 4 who were left had to take their workload... Wasn't gonna do it! Didn't do it ! It was a wonderful job til they messed it up ! Ungrateful slobs!!! My bonus this year was getting layed off from a crappy company after 16 years. No sorry's please, I'm happy to be out, kinda bittersweet.And hey! last year everyone got about 3 grand apiece to sell out their union brothers and sisters... 'cause that's what the season is all about. Enjoy your Christmas parties; big companies see these as a liability, they are a lawsuit just waiting to happen, too bad things are like this now, that kinda stuff was fun in the past. With my attitude toward the business climate right now, I could honestly say... pour another drink down me and give me those keys and your lawyers number.

I don't get squat but sometimes my wife does. The other day at one of their meeting, someone let slip that the bonus this year will have 4 digits (before the .). Somehow I doubt it but it would be nice right now. Maybe the bosses bonus anyways.

Bonus? hahahahahahahaha Joyce, even though we both do simular work I work for the Government and probably make half your wage, and the next contract we will lose sick time and vacation time. They are closing services to 'save money' and our ICU could even close. At the moment I am happy to have a job as may people here don't. However if I lose mine we may find ourselves in Northern California where I could get a bonus! Dave

I got a free thanksgiving turkey. In Februrary the company gives out its anual "incentive compensation" which is based on the companies performance against a set of goals. this can be as much as 7-10% of your salary in one check, of course the taxman takes a bite but its usually a pretty good sized amount. Of course when you look at industry wide salaries ours are a little low, so this is a way for the company to pay well when things are going well and then pull back when times are hard. Total compensation is just like eveywhere else. ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

This questions was spurred by a discussion at work. One of the ladies said her husband gets thousands each year and assumed a lot of people got BIG year end/holiday bonuses. She was referreing to our bonus as the "holiday boner." I don't know of anyone who gets regular bonuses and thought we were pretty lucky. She disagreed, so that is why I ask. I'll have to let her know the results of my little poll. Thanks, J.

As far as I know salaried positions in large corporations generally get bonuses but they dont always come at Christmas and usually depend on company financial results rather than personal performance. Thats the case with most engineering jobs anyway. The bonus is anywhere between 5 and 15% of the annual salary - which can amount to several thousand dollars even after the tax man takes a bite.------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

Yea, and they'll tell you "have a merry christmas" Best thing you can do is file for UI, you'll get at least one week paid for depending on your state. Or, don't I recall you saying, you hurt your back at work and you need two weeks to recover? hehehe You're employer might get mad at this tactic, but look what he did to you! Where I'm at, L&I claims went up at our work a couple hundred percent once layoffs started.

I must be one of the lucky ones: My boss is quite a task-master, but he is also very good at rewrding performance. For Christmas, I get a $200 gift certificate to 'Longhorn Steakhouse'for my family and myself, a $200 'Publix'(grocery store) gift certificate for Christmas dinner-fixins', and a $1750 cash bonus. We have an X-Mas party at a golf course/ club our company also owns for all managers plus spouses, little 'gifts' are provided to the spouses, open bar is in effect, live DJ, dinner and dancing. they don't call our bonus a bonus they call it profit sharing. Last year after Enron ( we are the same as them, they're competition ) They said they couldn't afford a profit sharing check to employees. Two years ago they gave us $800.00 which Uncle Sam took half. They made such a big production about it being so hard to get for us, I asked the boss if we should all pass the hat and donate it back to the co. since they were in such "dire straights" Luckily, I have a boss that appreciates my sarcastic humor. this year we get to work overtime if we want OR if we don't want!~ GEE HOW THOUGHTFUL. I planned vaction for two weeks. Our medical goes up every year too. On a side note I tied a brazing rod to my wallet with duct tape and walked through the office with it in the air up high acting like I was tuggin it downward. the boss says " what are you doing" I told him I was trying to hold onto what lil cash I had because my wallet was so light it defied gravity. He didn't see as much humor in it as I did. I give them hell. LOL

I used to love my fellow employees who sympathized with the company on medical benefits,... "oh, everyone is paying for medical benefits these days" We used to pay nothing, then they chipped away little by little, finally by the time I left, the deductible for a single individual was $150 and for a full family $600, this included a $70 per month charge for a single person and $200 per month for a family... if that isn't enought they also have a co-pay of $15 for each visit! now why in the heck is there a co-pay if you are paying a monthly fee???!!! I guess my co-workers got what they wanted.

I was going to put bonus? Ha-ha! However, after reading everyone else's zip, nada, zero then mine won't had been original. What a bunch of "cheapskate companies" out there in the neither regions! I can understand the zip, nada, zero if you were your own boss. But, some of these companies that give their management six figure incomes, during the year, just so they can "goof off" and then cry "No Christmas bonuses for their employees because they're tight this year".....What a shame! My bonus this year, since I am my own boss, is just to be with my wife & our daughter on Christmas day. *Wish it was my other daughter as well - but, that's another story that I won't air out.* ------------------ Jim 68 Mustang Coupe...My Show Car. And this year we all get to work on Christmas day.The latest rumor which I believe to be true is that salaried management will NOT be getting a pay increase this year, I have said for years that I have NO complaints about my salary, but, this is the first year out of 25 that I won't get a raise. Most workers are union so they will get one. I got one.My Mom and Dad always gave our rental property maintenance man a bonus. Same for their housecleaner and gardener. Since I technically work for the family business, I have been getting one too. It's funny though. Since I manage the rental properties now, I write all the checks and Mom signs them. So I pay myself the bonus. But Mom sets the limit! It's the same as we give the maintenance man. Stewart [This message has been edited by Stewart (edited 12-16-2003).]

Sorry, but I must intrude on this one, I can't pass up the opportunity. I would have to say, if I had a housekeeper, a gardner, and a maintenance man. I would not need a bonus. I think my bonus would be not having to listen to my fiance' scream about the housework.

I get the 24 hour duty on the 23rd (supposed to be a day off), but at least I'm home. Yeah, its a bonus though, Casey doesn't like me to play on the computer at the house and since I'm at work with nothing else to do I'll get to play video games and surf on the computer ALL day long. I'll also be playing "how many posts can I make at M&M in a 24 hour period?"I just got a new blast cabinet, so I'd rather have the day off, but if you gotta work, might as well make the best of it, eh? Casey's soon going to be a full time mom. Guess her bonus this year is she's "already pregnant!!!"

LOL, no problem...intrude away! I don't have a housekeeper or gardener. Unless you count my wife!! My Mom has the housekeeper and gardener. A few years back, when Dad's health was really slowing him down, he couldn't take care of his yard anymore. Dad used to have a great garden too. Well, about that same time, Mom's health (mainly arthritis) made it hard for her to take care of the house like she used to. Since Dad was very frugel with his money all his life, and had invested wisely, they could afford those comforts in their golden years. My Christmas bonus is for managing the few rental properties my Dad accumulated before his death this year. The investments are enough to keep Mom financially comfortable for the rest of her life. Mom isn't rich, but she can definitely pay cash for whatever she needs. Stewart PS - Joyce didn't ask who needed a bonus, just who got one. This thread has been more eye-opening and sad than I anticipated. I really must be naive, because I thought most companies gave at least a small token at the holidays.Really Sad! J.

That is called a paycheck. On an up note, latest news around the water cooler here....a mighty 2% increase instead of none. Honestly, I'm suprised that we are getting that, times are slow at the newspaper this year. ------------------ Stuart MCA #48902 M&M #1091 67 stang 5 speed, 351W, Edelbrock Performer RPM package my photo page

It USED to be like that, just like you USED to be able to count on keeping your job long term. {remember the term 'lifers?'} But the corporate world doesn't have any room for gratitude or loyalty these days. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Coupe 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip

Well, my friend is getting a nice year end bonus from the wood stove factory he works at, they get bonuses keyed to profits and it's capped at 25% of salary. He said right now it's at 19.7% and creeping upward. He should get around $10k. {...and he still bitches about his job...}
