Last night I saw a new WRX HO version and a new Turbo Elevation. Square off at a stop light. I think they looked silly sitting there with there 18・ rims and huge wings. Listening to them rev up just made me laugh. Don・t get me wrong I know these are fast cars, with all wheel drive, they do good on the road course, and have all the comforts of my living room sofa. But they are not now nor will they ever be HOTRODS, Muscle cars ECT. I do think they have a place in the market and for some reason the young drivers like them. I think they do help Ford and Chevy to stay on their toes and come up with more powerful cars to grab some of that market too. I have real hard time watching these cars racing and seeing anything cool about it, other then their ET maybe?? This is just my opinion and one I thought I・d share with you all. To see what you think?

I agree. When I hear the term "musclecar" I picture something that shows it's muscle just being parked. When you see a true muclecar, you Know it's bad just by the way it shows itself. And of course, nothing compares to the sound of a well pumped V8.------------------ http://webpages.charter.net/adragon8u/mystang

I agree! The new generation of 4 banger turbos cannot be called a "muscle car" in a true sense. Since they lack appeal with that term and a big block v-8, then I'm would say a new p.c. term would be in order.Muscle rubberband? Muscle rollerskate? Muscle weedeater? Muscle shopping cart? All sound like the perfect oxymoron terms to use for this generation of 4 banger *ahem* cars.

Right on point, as I just watched Hot Rod TV and they are conparing a WRX to a 03 Cobra.Talking the Subaru up real good as a modern day Muscle car.Running the Cobra thru the 1/4 mile in 13.8 which is almost a full second off what every other mag has come up with.I know why I got rid of that rag.All wheel drive was good for a 1.84 60ft time but after that the Cobra would smoke it.I know I have one. These guys must be lousy drivers.

I watched that too Those little turbo 4 bangers are powerful for their size. And make some impressive numbers. But to even say one is a muscle car or that it comes close to a SC Cobra. Thats a bunch of bull****. I'd rather drive me slower 65 Mustang then a faster WRX any day. Give me a car with some PERSONALITY and some seat of pants torque anyday.

Sam there are some real nice new cars out there right now. Some new idea's that I think are cool. Some very fast cars too. I just don't like to call them HotRods. How about we call them "wings-n-things". ------------------

I am with you SCOOP I will NEVER consider these cars Hot Rods or Muscle Cars. I consider Muscle Cars, Mustangs, GTO's, Firebirds, Camaros, Chevelles, Chargers, Challengers, Amx's, & so on. I front wheeled rice burner is NOT a Muscle Car. I am with you 100% on this one scoop. Its one thing to be fairly quick on paper, but they do with less power and less weight. So wheres the muscle? I mean little lotus cars can be fast too but we dont call them muscle cars.Turbo cars go quick at the strip but since I have owned one for a couple of months now I feel qualified to say that the turbo lag is VERY frustrating. I try to mash the peddle like my mustang and just get nothing in response. We mess with V8 cars because we know what displacement gives us. It gives us cheap thrills and an instant shove back in our seat that nothing else can do. And you said it right. Give me a slightly slower classic american car over a revved up 4 door japanses grocery getter any day. Style still counts for something to me. I Know that style is subjective and these guys think theyre stickers and wings make their 4 door boring-mobile look stylish so thats great. If they are happy with it then I will leave them to it - and respect their decision. Until they call it a muscle car. ------------------ '68 coupe 289 C code 66 heads, edel 600cfm carb, performer intake, dual exhaust http://www.geocities.com/ottouk_77/68mustang.htm

I don't see them as a muscle car either. But I will give them this...like you said Scoop, those things will *tear up* an autocross course. Went out to watch an autox back in October, and all those little cars like that were just taking corners like nothin'. WRXs, Lancer Evos, etc...just sticking those turns. And, running a good 6 seconds faster than any Mustang...even a race-prepped '95 Cobra R. Watching them at the strip might be interesting, but doesn't have the same "cool" factor as a Mustang or even an F-body. Ya know, something with a long standing heritage. ------------------ Frank S.----MCA Member 40390 '03 Mustang GT coupe '99 Mustang coupe '77 Ghia--"II Good"
