By about the early 90s, I came to the conclusion that most auto designers were taking their styling cues from vehicles they saw in sci-fi comic books and cartoons.

Sam, Consider this, most of the designers today are only half our age, enough said, got your navel pierced yet? Mike

Hey im probably only half your age and I find all those cars ugly. I dont mind the PT cause my girlfriend had one and they aint half bad. Aztec, Liberty, Echo, Avalanche. Gah.As for the sci-fi cues, Look at the '50s and tell me cars these days are getting way out there.

It all started with the Aztec. GM must have taken all the designers from the Aztec project and moved them over to the Caddies. I don't like the looks of the new caddies one bit. Several other makes out there that are just as bad or worse. Now the new F-150 and '05 Stang is a different story! Ford is on the right track. Dave: You must be out of your "Element" to talk like that! The Element is so ugly that a local dealer is painting the gray parts on some of them to tone down it's ugliness. The Cadillac is fugly but it is catching on. Doesn't Ford have a razor edge car in the works? On another site, saw a pic of the alleged 05 Mustang front end and it's nothing like the nice prototypes they hyped! Disappointing. What's with the razor sharp lines on some new ones. The BMW cv, the new Z3 or whatever, has very sharp character lines and they clash. Toyota has a coupe that is like that and not nice. Also Honda. Mercedes has come a long way in style improvement. Chevvy?? Forget it, except for the pickup which looks good, so does Dodge PU. And the backend of a new Tundra was sharp but the front was blah. Wonder just how bad the Aztec sales are? Beginning to see more of them-probably huge discounts. Don't think that too many top the Excrementalade Avalanche styld mess, with oversized wheels, for overall bad taste! Also, puke green is making a comeback on some cars, and one of the import SUV's has a pea soup color.

Pete, You are correct. I forgot the box on wheels helement, the echo, echo, echo, and several others. I was focused mainly on the big three auto makers. The more I look at the new cars, the more I like the classic Detroit Steel and Chrome. At least you can still pick out a Mustang from all the cookie cutter cars on the road today with out trying.
