Here's a sorry tale about the state of the mail order industry I e-mailed Summit explaining that some friends and I want to place a huge order, collectively speaking), and I c.c.'d this to our local Ford parts store, so they can handle the importing arrangements and reduce the tax burden. Basically, I was introducing Summit to my parts store so they could both make a sack of money! I got a one-line response giving me the URL where I could order an on-line catalogue that I thought it was clear I already had! So I wrote back and asked them to address the issue. I got back another one-liner saying Summit is already the cheapest in the mail order business and cannot offer any discounts!!!!! I never asked for discounts!!!!! Conservatively, I'd say Summit just lost $20,000 worth of orders and the chance of gaining a clientele in the Philippines just 'cos they couldn't be bothered to read my e-mail! End of rant ...

After getting the run-around twice from them in the past about parts I ordered, I wont buy anything from them anymore. I order almost everything from Jeg's now. Even if I was in the running for the Scummit Stupid Series, I still wouldn't buy parts from them.

i always shop Memphis performance- BTE Torque Convertors for any race related parts. They can beat summits prices and can get most anything drop shipped IF they dont already have it. When you call them you get someone who ACTUALLY answers the phone. http://www.bteracing.com/AboutBTE/default.asp ------------------ JS 69 Mustang Pro ET Drag

Jegs sent me a 350 GM Converter 3 times..when I want a C4 TCI Converter. I canceled and got the item shipped correctly from Summit, then I spent another 3K+ with them on engine parts.. Summitt fan here.Simon contact some of our M&M vendors and see what they say.

Although I mostly buy my parts locally, sometimes the local guys don`t have some of the less common stuff on hand. Summit has always been great to deal with, speaking from my own experiances. I haven`t really dealt much with Jegs, I kinda like the fact that Summit sponsors several different racers, where it looks like the Jegs gang just keep it in the family.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed 10.20@130mph 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA Stocker 302 5speed. 13.04@101mph 59 Meteor (Canadian Ford) 2 dr sedan 332, auto 74 F350 ramp truck 390 4spd

Simon, I have had good dealings with both Jegs and Summit and had bad one also. Don't count them out just because the Email responses weren't the best. Its a good possibility that the Email address is only answered by a $7.00/hour kid with canned responses. For orders as large as you mentioned, I would consider a direct phone call that would be during their normal working hours, Eastern Standard time, you might have to call in the middle of the night your time, or consider using snail mail with a registered letter. Just my opinion...Mike

Do any of our M&M sponsors handle the range of aftermarket stuff Summit has? Of course I'll use them if I can. Meanwhile, Mike, you're quite right. They may even be using a call center in India with some poor sucker handling 100 e-mails an hour. I've also had good service from Summit in the past. I'll try again.

I have found that any problem I have ever had with Summit, even those not there fault, ie: piss poor parts by vendor, have always been handled correctly by them IF, I CALLED THEM AND TALKED TO THEM. For some reason, email doesn't seem to get much response from them. Heck, I once returned a wrong part that was over a year old !!!I try to support the local Speed Shop by comparing prices to Summit and most of the time, by the time you factor in their "Handling Charge" (Free Frt, Yeah right) he can match their price. Ask the local guys how close they can get, you might be surprised. ------------------ Have a Wonderful Day CandyApple 65 Fastback 351W, Hooker Super Comps,4 Speed Versaille 9" Rear End Global West Front End [email protected]
