And from what I was told by a couple of friends who owned them, it wasn't much of a truck engine either. No power, and really lousey gas mile-age.

They were used in the late 60's{67?} to 75,when they were replaced by the 351M. The 360 was a smaller FE,in relation to the 390. It was a good engine. I've seen a few of them work as good stump pullers.

My buddy is a Mopar guy and he would never forgive me for saying this, He owns a '72 Duster with a 360 in it. The Mopar 360 is a smog motor/boat anchor. And its distributor is in the back, so you dont have one of those.

the motor in your buddy's jeep is more than likely an AMC 360, not a ford.

It is basicly the same motor as the AMC 390 and 401, just less bore and stroke. If I remember correctly, the blocks are the same.

There should be plenty of info on some of the jeep sites. There are quite a bit of parts available for these motors from edelbrock, etc.

remember the days when jeep was owned by amc
and harley davidson was owned by amf???

In 78,the Jeep corporation was owned by American Motors. It could be anything under the hood. I don't think it's a Ford engine though. They did source some parts from Ford and AC Delco,though.

An AMC's distributor will be in the front, but tilted towards the driver's side. A Ford has it sticking straight up like a... {nevermind }
