Any easy way to test why my temp guage is on the far right(HOT) all the time either with key on or off. Any way to test the guage to see if that is the problem? wiring? or the sender? HELP

any other gauges pegged? and what kind of car? remove the sender wire and it should drop. if it does replace the sending unit. usually to test the gauge is to ground the the lead for the sending unit and it should go pegged then remove the ground wire and it should drop. but chances are if the gauge is messed up then fuel and oil guage will be messed up. which will indicate that probably the IVR is taking a crap which is mounted on the back of the instrument cluster.

55 T-bird. I took the wire off the temp sender and grounded the wire to the block and the guage dropped back to cold from it's hot stuck position, with the key on. So I am assuming the guage works & the temp sender is bad. Or probably the temp sender is a 12V cause the motor is a 56 312 and I'm figuring now that that is the problem. Anyway I ordered a new 6 volt temp sender. That should do it....HOPE..Shoe

usually when you ground the wire out it pegs the gauge. but it sounds like yours is doing the opposite. the sender was probably a couple bucks but it sounds like it could be the gauge itself. any trouble from other gauges?
