I have an 83 Ford Thunderbird with a 3.8L in it. I'm going to be swapping it to a 5.0L out of a newer model cougar. I know I need the thunderbird motor mounts for the 5.0, but can I use the factory crossmember. Also does anyone know if the factory tranny will work with the 5.0L?

For the amount of work it will take, I would consider doing a 351 swap instead. They fit in the Fox body very easy. Mine is the later MN12 series, and takes a lot more to do a 351, but that is what is in mine.------------------ 1993 Tbird 393 stroker, 3500 RPM converter http://members.tccoa.com/393bird/

The K frame is the same for a 3.8 or 5.0L use motor mounts for a 5.0L mustang, yes your aod(I take it its an AOD) will bolt up to the 5.0L,but you may want to have it checked out, you'll need a t.v. cable from a 5.0L mustang if you're going to run EFI,if you're going to run a carb, then you'll need a cable like the one available from Lokars, you will also have to get a flexplate for a 5.0L mustang.Hope this helps Steve

83 T-Bird with a 3.8 is probably a C-5 with a lock up.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/IHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First SS/MA in the TENS! I had originally planed on using the 351. But was recently offered a 302 with keith Black flat top pistons, and a 5.90 cam, for around $500. Finding 5.0L mustang parts should be easy there are hundreds of them around here. Thats one reason why I went with the T-bird instead of the mustang.
