I just took on a project that someone else started. 1987 Thunderbird SC Turbo. Was told the head is bad. A used one was installed, just needs to be torqued down and everything put back together. Does the turbo have specific heads? Is there a way to tell?

Thanks in advance for your help

The sources I have read on this subject all say there is not a "turbo" head for the 2.3. There are several port designs among the different years but there is no significant flow difference.

If you want to spend a lot of money there is an aluminum aftermarket head that flows significantly better.

There is a separate head listed for the turbo in the MPC. It gives no specifics there, but let me do a little research on it. I would think it would have larger chambers for decreased CR at the least.

UPDATE;

-TURBO TBIRD-

The MPC also lists different valves, so there is a difference. They were used on BIRDS, COUGARS and MERKURS.
