I recently picked up an '86 Tbird with a 3.8L and auto. This will be my first fox-body car. I want to put in a carbed 5.0L and C4 to make a street/strip car. Can I use solid 79-93 Mustang engine mounts with the stock Tbird crossmember? If not, what are my options?------------------ Kyle Laramore '63 Fairlane: Under Re-construction '66 Mustang Coupe: 289, Offy intake, Crane Blazer hyd. camshaft, Autolite 4100 carb, Headman long tube headers, 3spd tranny, 8" rear, 3.80 gears '70 Mach 1: 351C-2V, Weiand intake, 750 holley, Flowtech long-tube headers, MSD ignition, C6 trans, CJ converter, 9" track-loc rear, 3.50 gears, Flowmaster 2.5" mandrel exhaust w/ 3-chamber mufflers Words to build engines by: "Never Assume!" I used 5.0 motor mounts and the stock t-bird tranny crossmember. I also used a non power steering rack and non power master brake cylinder from a 79 4 banger mustang. Roger------------------ 65 comet project 84 T-bird 302/C4 14sec street/strip www.avdra.bc.ca Made in CANADA built for speed #1145

So what part of the swap gave you the most trouble? Anything that I need to be sure to have/make before I start doing it? Since you have done it before, you must know of any mistakes that I could avoid! I'm planning on running the long-tube headers that Summit sells for fox Mustang/Capri/Futura/etc.- what did you use?

The biggest problem was the headers becuase the headers I used were from a 67 fairlane. I had to tune the firewall a bit with a hammer. When I removed my manual rack at the wreckers the rag joint was missing so I had to reinstall the power rack. I used the original rad but it was old and plugged so I used another rad I had laying around. I am getting ready to swap a 3.8 to a 351w into a 1986 cougar and i was wondering if you had any problems with the oil pan and do i need to just take the brake booster out and mount the master cylinder to the firewall? The 351w is out of a 1974 mercury montego.

Unfortunatly '86-'88 Birds/Cougs have a unique crossmember all unto themselves, the Mustang motor mounts will NOT fit. Options are Scrounge some from a junk Bird/Coug, or swap in a '83-'85 Bird/Coug or Fox Stang x-member. The Mustang member will require enlarging the mounting holes and probably some shimming to fit correctly.------------------ 1988 Turbo Coupe... 5.0 Conversion... AOD... 3.73s [email protected]....
