A guy I met at a show last weekend has a '63 Thunderbird vert, 390 tri-power with a/c. He claims that this combo was only factory installed in 10 cars... is this true??? It's got 60,000 original miles, drop dead gorgeous ------------------ 1965 GT coupe, 333ci aluminum headed/solid cammed stroker, four speed, 3.70:1 9" All Blue Oval, no blue bottle http://mustangsandmore.50megs.com/V8Thumper.html

That would have to be documented to be believable, It could be, but he needs backup for that claim. I thought the only tripowers were on the 406? but I'm no expert

There were THUNDERIRD 390 TRI-POWERS that year. They had a unique intake manifold as compared to the ones used on FORD/MERC. The cast aluminum air cleaner sported a THUNDERBIRD emblem.I am betting on what he meant was that only ten were assembled with both the TRI-POWER option and factory A/C. ------------------ I am looking for information concerning factory performance/aftermarket speed parts (1958/1960) used on the MEL (Mercury-Edsel-Lincoln) (Also Thunderbird 59/60) Engine Series (383-410-430-462) produced from 1958 thru 1968. No. The first use of a TRI-POWER (6V) on an FE was 1961 on the 390/375HP (4V). The assembly was put in the trunk for dealer installation and upped stated HP to 401HP.
