I think it's a matter of the beancounters running the show. And whenever you think short term, you're setting yourself up to get screwed.

Ford had a nice thing going with it's 'Living Legends' theme, it was creating enthusiasts which in turn creates loyal customers. But when you bring out a theme car, then turn your back on it, you lose enthusiasts and loyal customers.

I was hot for them when I first got a look...but seeing them on the road, they just seem blah! What a shame! They were pretty nice through '66. After that......
Guess the memory of the 55-7 is what T-Bird really means...to me.

I think they botched the project at almost every turn...

They took WAY too long from show car to production.

I thought their sales projections were always too high (there just isn't that huge of a market for a low-performance, boulevard-cruiser, two-seater)

As mentioned, low-performance...

Personal opinion? Ford blew it all the way around.

Correct you are! FORD built the thing on the same platform as the LINCOLN LS and JAGUAR S-TYPE to save production costs. For the most part, they have no concern for the buying public (especially dedicated) and just run anything to get it onto the showroom floor. Their build quality and customer service has sucked for years.

I have bought my last new FORD. I have a 1999 SABLE that I was going to upgrade to a CONTINENTAL this go around. So, they stop making them. What else is new?

Can you say PONTIAC?
