I have a 84 T-Bird that I use as a drag car.
What I'm looking for is pics or other sites that have 80's T-Bird drag cars.

Not that many around Roger. If you check Autoimagery.com you will find Ralph Torres and Len Schnieder's SS cars.

I found a nice pic of Ralph Torres pulling the wheels. The reason for looking for pics is to see what other guys have done about body trim. I want to remove the side moulding on my car as it is already starting to fall of.

I was originally thinking of going with red like the super coupe t-birds but now I'm thinking dark blue like 7DMACH1's. I have a body guy coming to look at the car this week. I need the lip below the rear window replaced, as it is rotten from pine needles getting caught under the trim. I'll remove the trim from the side of the car but it'll leave little steps where the bumpers wrap around. I might use filler to blend them in or just leave it. I'll let the body guy decide what to do.

That'll look sharp.

I think if I was building a T-bird drag car I'd be tempted to use a Bob Glidden scheme.

80's T-birds are pentiful around here, so they are cheap. I think they look cool. I also plan to get a cowl hood next year.

There is a guy around the Quad Cities area that runs a Bird of that body style, I'm not real sure which year. His name is Verkler and the car won one of the classes at the Fun Ford deal at Cordova last year. I haven't looked at the FFW website lately but there were some pix there.

It is a brute of a racecar. Huge 385 series that I think he runs on gas. Its painted a rather dark maroon with some graphics on the sides. Whether you like the paintjob or not, its an impressive car. Someone told me that the car used to belong to Les Baer who runs pro outlaw 5.0 now.

He races at Cordova and quick 16s around the vicinity mostly.

Which part of that site did you see the pic of the 83 t-bird Alex? I looked but could not find it; I tried searching with his name and I looked though some of the NHRA pages.

I put some photos of my Bird on my home page. It was from up your way after Glidden sold it in '88. Should be able to get to it thru my profile.

Roger,
It was built 1-15-87 By Haas for Bob Glidden. It was the 9th car by Haas for Glidden. Best we know so far it probaly was ran in NHRA during '87-'88. It has alot of aero stuff done to it. It was the car he was running prior to going to the Probe. Was sold to a guy in Canada before ending up down here. It has several inches taken out of the width(you can see where they cut it if you look up from inside the car). Also I think the front pillars have been layed back. It is not much wider than the '65 Mustang I used to run.

Roger,
I wish I could tell you but I have not run the car with my engine. My racing partner located it for me while I was deployed with the National Guard. I got back in January. I had the engine in a mild steel tube chassis '65 Mustang weighing in at 2640 lbs. It ran 5.05's in the 1/8th and 8.0s in th 1/4 with a serious case of ring flutter. Just going by weight reduction without fixing the ring problem it should go 4.80s in the 1/8th & high 7's in the 1/4. It was in kind of bad shape when we took delivery so have been getting it back to 10-100 standards. I am completing the electric magnet installaton for the clutch now; should be done with that tomorrow (I have it tied to a delay box). I still have to mount the alternator, fuel pump, radiator, fuel cell and dry sump tank. I bracket raced the Mustang with a Lenco and will do the same with the Bird. When time permits I may paint it back with the scheme as it was when bob campaigned it ( the guy from up your way had the promod wing built for it). I work evenings & usually check this site when I get in to unwind so any time you have a question just give me a shout.

Thanks Mark, I built my car last year on a very tight budget($700) as I wasn't working much. I had a lot of help from friends. One friend found me the car for free and I put it together with old parts that I have had for years or borrowed. We turn are local airport in to a 1/4 mile strip once a year and I put this car together for that weekend. The car is a street/strip car but I plan to turn it into a race only car. I help out with the local high school drag team and plan to let them use my car also. Plus my son will be 16 in 2yrs so he will have a car to race at the high school races.

Here is a link to a racingjunk.com ad for a rather nice looking T-Bird drag car.

A local one, an 85 I think, was sold last Fall. It is red and white. I don't have any pics of it, unfortunately. The colors look good on it. Bad thing is its set up for a SBC.
