Hey guys, I need a little info. I'm going to be getting a 408 stroker kit for my 351c. The cam is still gonna be the 242/[email protected], 285/287 advertised, 0.640" lift on both sides with a 112 LSA installed on a 108 intake centerline. The cam has 4 degrees advance ground in it. Because of the fact that my stall will go up a little from 4100 when the stroker goes in, I'm gonna have less powerband. So, to get a little more rpm out of it and maybe pull a little low end out(to lessen stall speed), I should retard the cam. I'll be putting in a Rollmaster timing set that has 9 keyways, so I can retard from +2 to -8 degrees. What would you guys do? Right now the engine makes peak rwhp @ 6800-7000 rpms. I'd like to make pk hp around 6200-6500 and shift around 6500-6700 if thats possible. Thanks in advance.

You might be better off calling and asking Mark. Personally, I would stick it in either straight up, or no more than 2* retarded. My personal experiance has been if you go to far from where it was originally designed to be installed, it doesnt work correctly. And I'm not talking about 12* or anything either. I had one cam I initially installed 4* advanced. It didnt work as well as I thought it should, so I changed to straight up. It ran exactly the same. So I backed it up 6*. It then ran like a$$ (lost 2 and a half tenths in the 1/8.) Another cam in a different motor ran the same at straight up as it did 2* retarded (I had to retard it for piston to valve clearance.)
