Does anyone make a boost reference mechanical fuel pump besides paxton, their pump is 450+ dollars! i forget the amount but its out there. i aquired an older paxton setup and i really want to use a mechanical fuel pump but i do have a holley blue pump but its only 15-16 psi. i know i'll need a boost reference regulator for the electric pump. any advice if i do decide to go with an electric fuel pump? what fuel system setup. This old paxton still has a 4.75 head pulley and the stock crank pulley from paxton. i can only see it making 6 maybe 7 pounds of boost. Thanks M&M Steve

You can over boost a HP Carter or Holley pump by drilling and tapping a hole for a fitting in the cover over the diaphram. That's that way Paxton used to do it on their early kits. 289 Hipo fuel pump with a fitting installed. Also I think that I still have a over boosted Holley regulator that I made for my old Paxton set up with an electric pump.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." could you tap the hole on the side of the carb that when the pump fails it seeps from? Can you explain the "over boosted holley regulator" that you have, could i use my holley blue pump as a pusher with your regulator and still retain my stock mech. pump?

Yes you can use the regulator with your blue pump, but you need to tee in the mechanical pump by tapping in a fitting.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." is the holley regulator you have inline before the carb and gets hooked up to vacuum? and opens to allow more fuel when it sees vacuum.I'm thinking about buying a new fuel pump mech one. I like the tapping idea on the cover above the diaphram. would you recommend a regular summit pump 110 gph 6-8psi pump. or would i need more flow (more psi i guess) i plan on keeping the large pulley on the blower. Most pumps will have a vent hole in the housing. The vent hole allows atmospheric pressure to push down on the diaphragm. Drill & tap the hole to 1/8 NPT and put a fitting in there for your reference hose and fuel pressure will increase on a 1:1 ratio with boost. Just make sure theres only one vent hole; if there's more than one, you'll have to plug the other ones so that boost will not leak out. Also, make sure the reference hose doesn't have vacuum on it (needs to be either on the carb hat or anywhere above the throttle blades...I used the compressor housing). Put vacuum on it and it will not pump fuel at all.

I put a paxton kit on mine. The kit included instructions on how to drill and tap your pump. I will try to scan it and post it here tonight.
