I'm thinking about makin the 351c a 408c over the winter. Since my block will end up being my weak link (I'm guessing), I want to run the cast crank incase the block lets go. Since my bores are still good, I won't be hard-blocking it either. The only changes made to the engine will be the rotating assembly. The cam is a 242/244 @0.050 custom MME hyd roller so I'm guessing 6500-6800 will be the max rpm. I'd guess for a hp it would be in the 500-550 hp range ??????? The engine will always be naturally aspirated and I highly doubt there will ever be any nitrous used and primary use will be street with an occassional blast down the strip. So under these conditions, will the series 9000 cast Scat crank and forged I-beam rods hold up fine?

With that small cam and those extra inches, I would bet it will be all done making power by 6200.

KV, thanks for the reply. I talked to Mark @ MME about it and the 6500-6800 rpm peak was kinda what he was guessing. The engine makes a peak right now on a chassis dyno from 6800-7000 rpm. But you've ran a lot of Clevelands and seen a lot of them run, so I appreciate your opinion too.

Dustin I'm gonna say that scat 9000crank will work fine for ya along with the i-beam rods. That's what we run in our circle track car and I talked to a guy that wants me to build a new motor for his modified and that's what he used in his old motor and they spin 7,500-8,000 all night on alcohol. We got 50 nights on our motor and it's seen 8,200 and it's still together so it should be fine.

I have broken 2 crankshafts in windsor-based engines. First was a Summit 393 crank (made by SCAT...was cast right into the crank), broke at the finish line and luckily didn't spill much oil under the tires. 2nd one was just about 3 months ago (genuine 4.000 stroke scat 9000).

I was HARD on both engines. The 393 was a high-winder on gas. The 415" was a 7000 max alky injected job. Both ran 6-teens and 20's in the 1/8 at 113.

That said, I have also run a Scat 9000 crank in a 514 I had in a '83 F100 pickup. Great engine. I beat the living crap out of that thing for at least 2 years (probably 500 + passes), pulled the maverick all over the country, and drove it daily for the most part. I did this all in probably a 3 year span as I sold (actually traded) the truck in '99 when I bought my '95 F150. The 514 is STILL in the truck and STILL running great. I got my ass handed to me by my old truck the other night at the drags....and I was in my 03 Lightning. I sure miss that thing.

Just like any other cast crank, they seem to be hit or miss. Only other time I've had a problem was 2 years ago when I had a stock stroke crank (3.5") that grenaded...but it was not the cranks fault. Yanked the main webs out of the block, but it eventually took out the crank too.
