Hi again,

I am revising a post I made a while back about what e.t. my 73 coupe would run. Here is my new revised specs
-73 coupe, (+-)3200 lbs with me.
-302 cid; 8.5 comp, 1.78/1.45 valves
-Edelbrock perf 289 intake, dual plane
-Edelbrock matching cam, pn#2122-idle to 55
-holly 4160 600cfm vac sec. 4bbl with 1" carb spacer
-4.11 rear gears; trac loc
-2500 stall t/q
-2 1/4 duel exhaust with turbo muffs
-full length headers

I know I am very restriced on the heads and valves, but I want to soon find bigger set, but use these in the meantime.

I am at utah elevation, what do you think my best time could be on a nice vht track, (rocky mountain raceway) with a good light and a 2000rpm footbrake launch?

Thanks alot!
-wes

Thats a similar setup to what I have had in the past with my 289.
I ran a 15.6, but with 2.79 open gears.
youre at altitude but have a little more power. My car was 3150lbs with me.
Your gears ought to be worth 3 tenths or more, and you have more cam and cubes than my 289 had (maybe worth another couple of tenths)

I would guess low 15s. It will depend heavily on the track with those gears and street tires, youll have a hard time getting off the line. If you can really get away well you might get into the high 14s but only if you really launch well.

If you find yourself in the high 15s then it must be either the altitude or your tune is way off (My tune was hardly optimal)

Cutting a good light doesnt help your ET by the way, just helps you beat the guy in the other lane. when I test and tune I focus on leaving well not cutting a good light.

I have no idea what your altitude is in Utah. Nor do I know what it would be worth in ET.

I friend of mine let me borrow a sweet little device that tells you (within a tenth) what your 1/4 mile time and trap speed is. See web site. www.gtechpro.com It's $200, but if you have a mustang club to share the cost...

I just tried out my GTech about 20 minutes ago. I have no idea how accurate it is. It is pretty fun...if you don't kill yourself. I've got to find a longer stretch of road. The drum brakes are lighter, but don't stop so well. :0
Results for tonight- 14.77 sec, 101 mph. I spun a little on take off, so there's room for improvement.

Here is some info that should help shed some light on this issue:

Sounds very similar to the first setup in my 72 Maverick about 15 years ago. The only thing different from yours was I ran a 268 HE Comp Cam and Edelbock 600cfm carb. Gears and everything were the same so it should run about the same. I bracket raced it and it ran a consistent dial of 9.66 in the 1/8. The few times I was able to run the 1/4 it would run in the low 15's.
