I labeled the picture so you can see what I am talking about. What the heck is that lever (E) for? If I push it to the left the screw (C) actually hits on the other lever (D) like it is some kind of adjustment. Also, if I don't pull the slack out of the primary throttle shaft and lever assembly that arm (B) scrapes on that bump (A) on the carb. I think the arm (B) is where you can attach the retracting spring but I'm not sure. If I do pull the slack out it barely misses. I can feel it scrape when I press on the gas pedal. Anybody know what that arm is for? Do I need to hook it up to something? There is no mention of it in my exploded view. Where is the dashpot? Thanks.

I think that is the fast idle adjusting lever and screw. I have an exploded view showing those. Go to Autozones website, and search around. That's where I found mine.

My Holley 600 has a similar linkage set up behind the main throttle linkage for Auto Transmission kickdown linkage. (B) is for a return spring on that linkage, separate from the main return spring.

"Late" model 4100s (post 66?) didn't have dashpots.

Lever "E" is for your auto trans kickdown linkage. If you're running a manual trans, either tie it all the way back (clockwise) or find a manual throttle shaft without it.

Lever "E" is indeed the auto trans downshift lever for passing gear.
Screw "C" is for fine tuning the passing gear actuation adjustment.

Wire tie the entire lever out of the way if you do not have an auto trans.

I do have anauto trans but my kickdown linkage on the Holley 600 just "floats" (no linkage to transmission). I just downshirft manually if I need to.
That shouldn't cause any problems, right?

Thanks Alex.
I wouldn't know what linkage to buy or where to find it anyway. More fun to manually shift it anyway.
Eventually I plan on an engine (Ford Racing Crate motor), tranny (C-4 to 4 spd.) & rear end (8" 3.00:1 73 Maverick to 9" 3.50:1 posi) swap anyway.

You guys are great! I never even considered that. Funny part is that when I bought this carb I had a C4. I guess I will wire it up and call it good. Thanks a bunch!
