Starting to price third members, catalog I have shows only about a $50.00 difference between a Strange N iron and aluminum member. Any durability issues ? (bracket car)

I have a Strange aluminum center in my dragster. No issues with durability. The car is a '98 model and this is the original center and gears (4.10 pro gear)

My car is light (1850 lbs w driver), but it does cut 1.09 60' times, so that has to be a shock to the rear.

I think for a race only car that doesn't see any street time an aluminum center would work fine.

I have one of each, Old N case and Strange Aluminum. No issues with either.

Fifty bucks? They were the same price back when i bought mine.

Ring and pinion life will be shorter. I break ring gear on mine, but it isn't unexpected. I'd maybe get more runs with an iron case but i'm on a lightness kick.

The breakage statements concern me. This car will be a low 11 sec car, trans braked. If that is going to cause reliablity issues with an aluminum center section, no thanks. I was looking to reduce unsprung weight. I want an anvil simple driveline.

It never just busts on me, just cracks the gears. Getting sixty or more runs on a set of ordinary street gears in a low ten second stick car is actually pretty decent. You can hear that by pushing the car or coasting, sort of a clicking sounds that increases with speed.

Zero reliability issues Cat.
I have 3 of them.
All Strange and all are aluminum.
The only one that has a very poor ring and pinion life is the freaking high dollar chebbie 12 bolt.
About 40-45 passes to a 6.20 lightened pro gear set.
The two regular Ford style units are virtually indestructable.
I have hundreds of passes on both of them and the gears are still as new.
Always had RP synthetic in them since new.

With a trans brake and 5.14 or less gears, I don't think you would ever hurt or even wear out a ring and pinion.
Big gear puts a lot of stress on the pinion which is my issue, and a stick will do the same which is Tomp's.
