I have a duraspark for a stock 289 that I am going to abuse this season. It's used i've been running it for about 2 years now. The car is a 64 falcon 4 speed with 4.11's out back. I am looking to squeeze every ounce of power out of the motor. It's a stock 289 with an unknown cam(mild) 4 barrel intake and carb, and headers. I just overhauled with new rings and paint . How do you lock out the timing? I have gone through the archives, and don't fully know how to. Any help is much appreciated. Thanks, Jason.------------------ 1964 Falcon 302, 4 speed 1977 Ford F-150 swb 4x4 1966 Mustang "C" code coupe, just sold to my dad

With a duraspark, you have to either weld, fasten together, or eliminate the advance mechanism. Then you can set the timing total at the balancer.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." I just took off the vacuum line and pluged the vacuum advance...mine is set at 19 degrees advance at idle with premium gas.

That only disabled the vacuum advance. Not the mechanical advance. If you lock the mechanical advance, you would set the timing for the total number. I run 36* at idle, 3000rpm or 7000rpm. Yep,You guys with converters that stall over 3,000 rpm should definately lock your timing out. Disable the mechanical advance and of course the vac advance. Lock it in at total from idle to 7,000 and you'll be suprised how much better it will idle and pull on the bottom end too. Believe it or not, SteveW
