Would this combination be overkill on a stock .030 over 289 shortblock. I know everybody recommends the 270s, but I would like a little more cam noise, and power. The shortblock just has cast flattops, and about 10,000 miles on it. Would you do any work? Just thinking out loud. What are your specs? Intake, Carb, Exhaust, Ignition ect? Anyways,You will need a good intake like the performer RPM or stealth, A carb (650 DP) should do the trick, Headers, And I would suggest some low gears... Atleast 3.55.I am currently using that cam and those heads. One thing that I have found out is that cam/matching lifters is noisy as hell for me anyway, Even with the valve lash set to specs 0.22 hot. I replaced my old 270H cam with the 282S and felt like it lost power... Dosen't have as rough as an idle as the 270H either. It might just be more tuning for me, But as it stands right now it feels slower than my old setup. Also what is your compression? With the 60cc RPM heads and your cast flat top pistons I would say that it is approx 9 to 1. I would maybe consider milling your heads to up the compression to make that cam and heads work to the max. Let us know how it goes, Good luck.

I've use that cam as well. Set it to 0.017" hot, or 0.017" cold if you have iron heads. They are advertised to be able to go all the way down to 0.015". You could probably push it further. Remember, the tighter the lash, the more effective duration you will get out of the cam, and the more 'rowdy' the idle will be. Yea, it will work. Cast flat tops and max rpm would be my two concerns. The valve to piston clearance will probably be OK, but with those mismatched valve reliefs and your heads, i'd check it. The rpm limit with cast flat tops and stock bottom end should probably be limited to 5500 or so. Here is a video of a 331 with a 282S cam idling in the dark with a makeshift exhaust system good enough to get me to the muffler shop. I also set my lash cold to .018 or .019. I will be running a toploader behind it. It will have 4.11's. I have a S2MS cobra intake I will run, with a 650dp. I will use the headers that are on it w/2.5 exhaust. Thanks, Jason.------------------ 1964 Falcon 302, 4 speed 1977 Ford F-150 swb 4x4 1966 Mustang "C" code coupe, just sold to my dad
