1966 with 289 4v After I installed my Cobra-style Edelbrock F4b intake I didn't like how close it looked to hitting the hood. I used a Boss 302 style pcv spacer to gain clearance, then bolted down the carb and installed the HiPo style chrome air cleaner. I put a bunch of pillars of Playdough around the air cleaner like the face of a clock, closed the hood and measured. I've got 1.1" minimum around the edge and .95" at the center. I'm thinking this is plenty of clearance, look forward to any input.

Thats plenty clearance. I had less then that before I added the hood scoop. Now I have about 6" from the top of the carb. Thanks for the quick reply... Glad I changed spacers, from the stock 1" to a stock-appearing .028", otherwise I'd have only had about 1/4", and I can still hook up my pcv hose to the baseplate instead of leaning out one of the rear runners.

I run a 351w in my 70 mach and it has a medium riser intake with a 3" overall height air cleaner and i have about 1/4" clearance to the hood. My cleaner is oval and i can't turn it slightly otherwise it will rub the underside of the hood.------------------ 1970 Grabber Blue Mach 1 H-code 1970 Fastback 2003 Torch Red Mustang

Any time you have more than about .001" hood clearance it seems like you are wasting space that could mean a bigger filter, better intake or a spacer.

My freind's '69 Mach 1 has about -3 (negative 3) inches of clearance. It's a shaker scoop.Tracy
