End of an era, unfortunately. Did he have a family? Was someone caring for him?

RIP Dyno Had the pleasure of seeing Dyno match race with Arnie Beswick several years ago. I hung around his pit for a while and he seemed like quite a guy. He had a family caring for him as far as i know. I last saw him about 3 or 4 years ago and he was being affected by Alzheimers, just a couple years earlier he was racing the 62 (other leading brand) and sharp as can be. Memory was fully functional then as he recanted stories with Arnie Beswick about match races with spooky handling cars on rickety tracks in the deep south.Bummer, i'll miss him. He was a true drag racing legend.

I only shared a track with him once. It was at a points meet at the old Omaha, NE track. As usual I was too busy working on my own car to socialize but I still have a vivid memory of his Pro Stock Maverick driving by my pit. It instilled a love of Mavericks that I still have.Godspeed Don.

I havent seen him in a few years, but alot of us affectionatly called him Draino. Im sure alot of people didnt know, but he and Arnie Bestwick had a huge deal going on for most of their racing lives. Years ago when the pro mod thing started, both built cars. Between them 2, it was all about who had a bigger motor, and who went faster. Don was always a great person, willing to share a story. I was fortunate to be introduced to him I believe in 1989, though it might have been earlier. He may not have always remembered me by name, but he always remembered me when I saw him. RIP at the big racetrack in the sky.
