This is my first time with an aftermarket intake. So we slapped a 429/460 Performer intake on a running 429, popped the Autolite 4300 test carb back on, and it backfires like a bronco and can't run worth a damn.
I think it's a crazy idea but is the firing order the same on a Performer intake as the original? I did notice that the runners are different from the original.
Thanks!
Simon

that would be the same firing order...did you take the wires off to do the intake? did the distributor come out when you replaced the intake?

Look at your ignition timing Simon.
You may have stuffed the distributor back in a tooth or two off.

Thanks for the tip guys - I was convinced you were right. It turns out the carb was throwing a hissy fit. No idea why and don't particularly care. We took a nicely tuned Autolite 4100 off another car and the engine fired right up!
If I've learned a lesson, it's to use a good carb as a test carb, but these 4100s are hard to come by and 4300s are everywhere.
