After reading about how well the exhaust tape keeps temps down, can it saftely be used on headers? I've read that by putting the tape on, it can hold in moisture and rust the headers out. If I would do it, I'd wrap them and put the silicon spray on that is supposed to seal up the wrap. Is it worth the advantage of lower heat? Are there any cons to it? It will be on a street driven vehicle, the headers are nickel coated and starting to show some age. Thanks

It does keep the heat in which makes the underhood heat less, and is said to increase exhaust flow. The only negative I was told it can cause enough heat to crack the headers. If you get the headers wet it traps the moisture rust the pipes. I might try it on my headers. They aren't coated and I want some super comps anyways. I don't drive in the rain and when I wash the motor I'd be real careful getting the headers wet.

My custom turbo headers lasted about 3 years with no problems. Mild steel 16 ga tubing...on a 302 in a Maverick. The wrap also helped spool time a bunch!
