My Torino replica continues to struggle on with inadequate photo resources What would that red lever arrangement be in the pic? Would it be a kill switch for someone outside the car to use? If it's not a kill switch, would this era of NASCAR cars have had them externally - or just one for the driver's use? Many thanks! That looks a lot like the battery cutoff switch used by drag cars these days. ------------------ '70 Mustang Mach 1 351C 4V/FMX/3.25 Open '70 Mustang Convertible 250 I6/3 speed/2.79 Open '72 Mustang Sprint Hardtop 351C 4V/FMX/4.30 Trac Loc '94 F-150 XL 5.8L/E4OD/3.55 Limited Slip '05 Mercury Sable LS 3.0L DOHC 24V Duratech V6

No more takers? Going, going gone! Thanks Steve - a battery cutoff switch it is then! Let me just try my luck. Does anyone know Richard Rodeck? He's the lucky fellow who now owns this car. I'd love to be able to drop him a line.

I see that the car has early Dura-Spark style ignition box(es)on the right side kick panel. My guess is that is what the switch is for. In the event that one failed, (as they were prone to do back then) the switch could be flipped to engage another module. My second and most probable is that it is for a second or alternate battery. My third choice would be to concur with Steve. That it is a kill switch, but I doubt that one. All the NASCAR kill switches I have seen are driver controled. NASCAR motors must use mechanical fuel pumps (always have) so there is really no need for a kill switch.------------------ Alex Denysenko Co-Administrator and Moderator NHRA/SRA member and licensed Superstock driver NHRA and IHRA SS/LA & SS/MA National Record Holder '00,'01,'02,'03,'04 &'05 First NHRA & IHRA 289 automatic Superstock Mustang in the TENS 06-99 First SS/MA in the TENS 04-03 IHRA division 5 Superstock Champion Fleet of FoMoCo products including 88 ASC McLaren Mustang #28 The Barry of BarrysGrrl Quote #1: "I never met a magazine mechanic I liked." The ignition switch makes the most sense to me, too. Somewhere I have a magazine article on that car.Tracy

if it's not the article in mustangs and fords which that picture is from, i'm sure fastback68 would apprecaite finding out which mag this is the article in mustangs and fords for those of you who hadn't seen it allready. http://www.mustangandfords.com/featuredvehicles/16162/ i found a couple more images than what was on that site, but nothing of the interior http://home.westman.wave.ca/~torino/images/ford_gran_torino_stock_car.jpg http://home.westman.wave.ca/~torino/images/ford_gran_torino_stock_car_head_on.jpg http://home.westman.wave.ca/~torino/images/ford_gran_torino_stock_car_rear.jpg didn't know if you would have them or not so figured i'd post them up. also a site with outside shots http://www.historicgrandnationalstockcars.com/41.htm the last one here you might be able to contact the driver, not sure if that's the original or a replica, but either way he might know [This message has been edited by Dubz (edited 12-02-2005).]
