I'm afraid my transmission problems are terminal. This was a toploader with road race upgrade from David Kee. It probably has 4000 miles on it but about 50 to 60 passes. This in no way is a complaint whatsoever toward David Kee. I tend to speed shift when I race and I'm sure it's not the best for any transmission. I was having trouble hitting gears at higher rpm's toward the end of the transmission's life to the point it would no longer physically go into gear at the end.

Now the dilema: 1. Have Dave Kee rebuild the toploader 2. Go the 5 or 6 speed route.

I am not very knowledgeable about 5 or 6 speeds to know what model will fit on a 69 Mustang using same shifter cut out. I also don't know whether a 5 or 6 speed is strong enough compared to a top loader.

I have about 530 rear wheel horse without nitrous and 625 with. This is a big block FE in a 69 Mach 1

Any suggestions would be great.

Zeater I know you like to go quick in the 1/4 and it seems to me the more gears you have to shift the slower you will go unless you have a lenco or something that takes no time between gears .The exception would be a 5 speed I guess where you only used the 5th gear for highway use...What about a Jerico?Don't they have a version for street use where you can downshift?..David Kee has a pretty quick Falcon that had a big block 4 speed combo..He must know how much punishment they will take?

I don't have as much hp or torque so it is hard for me to be sure but my Richmond 5spd has lasted for over 10 years and is still running fine. I guess I'll know in the next year though with my new blower install almost completed.

I found a transmission place that offers a new TKO 600 which will handle 600 ft lbs of torque. With clutch, pressure plate, t.o. bearing, adapter, transmission, shifter, cross member and input shaft it would be about 2850.00.

With a .67 overdrive I would be cruising at 70 mph at about 2300 rpm instead of 3400 rpm with the current 4.11 gears.

I am getting tired of getting passed on the highway going 60 to 65 mph at over 3000 rpm.

I've always wanted the best of both worlds.
