Had a line lock installed and was told it wise to add a relay. It was suggested that the switch heats up and can burn out and stick. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what one to use? I have a order for Summit waiting to go out so it would be easier to add one there. Thanks ------------------ -351w Bored .30-351w Heads Fully Ported -Custom made Ford 9" 3.70 Pics Michael

I did not install a relay on mine. You shouldn't be holding the line lock for more than about 15-20 seconds at a time so it shouldn't be an issue. If you used a Summit kit, I would recommend a better switch than the one that comes with the kit. It is very cheap, and won't last long.[This message has been edited by ntman (edited 09-30-2005).]

Thanks for the help. It is a B & M line lock. So I would be better changing the switch Vs. a relay? Any recommendations on a switch? I do like the button one I had mounted on the shifter.------------------ -351w Bored .30-351w Heads Fully Ported -Custom made Ford 9" 3.70 Pics Michael

I found two I liked and looked as they may fit into the holder on my shift. One is a 10 amp transbrake momentary switch and one is a 20 amp NOS momentary switch. Would either of these work or would I need a certain type or style?

I like the Hurst Line Lok buttons that come with their kit. The switch is available seperatly as well. After having 2 different Hurst black ball shift knobs with a button built into the ball stick on me, as well as having a couple of bad Hurst T handles with buttons fail, I went back to the Hurst switch. This switch has the rubber band that holds it to the shift handle, never had 1 go bad yet. As for a relay, I`ve never felt the need. A Line Lok is "on" for a short period of time, and draws little amperage.------------------ 78 Fairmont 428 4 speed [email protected] 1.32 60 foot 80 Fairmont 302 5 speed 12.8@105mph 85 Mustang NHRA M/Stock 302 5speed. Thanks for the help. I do not plan on using it much. Originally bought it in hopes of using it for a parking brake but found there was no way of it working for that purpose. Had a duel MC with booster installed and figured as long as I had it I might as well hook it up. Thanks again for all the help and advice.

I use a forklift parking brake as a line loc because it will allow you to use it as a parking brake. You depress the pedal, hit the switch, and the line loc function is activated. You do your burnout as usual, but if you do not hit the brake once again, it will remain engaged until you hit the brake pedal, even if the power on the car is turned off!!

My brother is a forklift mechanic at Orco Block. He was going to get me one that they use. It was non electric. The way I understood it was it was like a ball valve and you pushed the brake and turned a lever and it closed the line. It was beyond pricy and not a pleasant item to have to look at and seemed harder to install. I had to have my E-Brake line modified to bypass my mufflers and it seems to work well.

I also have a B&M on my 68. The supplied momentary switch works just fine with no problems, and no relay. http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v213/kechke/linelock002.jpg[This message has been edited by Rudi (edited 10-06-2005).]

Thanks That is the same one I have. Mine is mounted in the same place but on the side so it is easy to use with thumb. I did get a new one and will change it someday when time allows.

A relay is not required but gives a higher voltage and current capability. Thanks for the picture. I had mine put on with zip ties but liked the look of your installation better. It took awhile to make a bracket. Did yours come with one or did you make yours also? I also had to mount my holder upside down for the switch I got. It fit the bottom outlet and not the threaded hole. Will wait on the relay if need be and thanks for the help. ------------------ -351w Bored .30-351w Heads Fully Ported -Custom made Ford 9" 3.70 Pics Michael
