Trying to find out which way to go on a project I'm helping out on.

The vehicle is a 90 GT with a warmed up 302. Hoping for 400 HP at the crank.

How the car will be used: street/strip with more emphasis on the strip eventually.

The car has 3.73 gears in it. I'm trying to decide whether to get a beefed up AOD(for ease of driving to the track) or a C4.

From what I've heard, the C4 is the beefier, more reliable transmission, but I admit I don't know much about either.

So, any opinions?

If we go with the C4, is there major mods to make it work in this car?

If it's mostly track the C-4 is the way to go. It will use far less power than an AOD. Properly built they can reliably handle over 500 hp.

Look at Lentch and Buamann for info on the AOD. The C4 is a more efficient and ighter trans but the AOD is hard to beat for a true street strip car. So far my AOD has held up very well to my 289. I'm guessing my 289 is about 350hp + 125HP N2O. I'm not planning for the AOD to last forever though. I got lucky and found an rebuilt and never installed AOD on e-bay for $265, and it was local to boot.

If you go AOD plan on at the very minimum getting a hardend inner input shaft or better yet a 1pc input shaft, that is a very weak link on the AOD. I went with the hardend inner to retain the lockup converter.

The AOD can be a very good very strong trans as much of the internals are sized like the C6, but there are some issues that should be dealt with for serious performance. Like I said though, mine is holding up fine and it is all stock with a shift kit, A servo, and hardened input shaft.

HTH,
B-loose

P.S. The AOD allows me to run a 4.62 rear gear and still drive on the freeway at under 3000 RPM!
