I scored a C6 without shifter mechanism, and got as far as installing it before realising there was not place on the bellhousing to fit the neutral safety switch.
I see from surfing that they are sometimes located on the shifter rather than the actual tranny, but I can't figure out whether this applied only to column shift cars or also to floor shifters.
All the C4/6 trannies I've dealt with have had the switch on the tranny. Is there a floor shift C6 model I now have to track down with the switch attached to the shifter? What model car would that come from?
Many thanks as always,
Simon

I've never seen that switch on bellhousing. I've seen them mounted around the area where the shift lever mounts on the shaft and on the steering column. I've never played with the 60's style floor shifter so I don't know if the switch could mount there.

Mine I believe was connected to the shaft/shift lever on the tranny. As I remember, I didn't want to screw with disconnecting it and hoping I got the wires jumped correctly, so I set it so the car would start and wired it to the firewall.

I had a 70 Mustang coupe that came with a FMX tranny it had the neutral safety switch in the floor shifter. Guess since the FMXs were built by Borg Warner the Ford switches wouldn't fit on the tranny.

Had a C6 out of a 1971 Mustang, neutral switch was attatched to the tranny, mounted over the shifter shaft and had a 4 wire connector.

On my '71 Torino, the neutral switch does not exiet, it is a mechanical interlock between the floor shifted tranny and the steering column. The backup lights are run off of the shifter.
