Hey guys,

I need some advice from some Cam Gurus. I am currently running an old 80's grind Iskendarian .550 solid lifter cam in my '67 Mustang Coupe. It's such an old grind that I cant even find the specs anywhere on-line. Isky grind 505H. I'm wanting to modernize w/ a solid roller set up. I have a chance to get a great deal from a Mustang Club member on the following cam he used on his 306:

Lunati Billet Solid Roller Cam 646/646lift-260/264dur @.50 Springs, retainers, locks, roller lifters etc. Comp Cams Hi-Tech Pushrods 7944 7.25

I'm sure that the pushrods are too small but the rest of the stuff should fit right in. My problem is that I have 13.5 : 1 compression w/ my set up. Here's what I'm running:

351W bored .040 over, stock 9.5 deck

Forged Arias Pop-up Pistons (don't recall any valve reliefs...just the pop ups) balanced internals w/ slight bit of extra slack for higher rpms (7200 RPM redline)

505H Iskendarian .550 lift solid lifter cam

1.6 Crane Roller Rockers

Windsor Sr. Heads slightly milled just to clean them up. Port work is around the corner.

Holley 750 Double Pumper

Victor Jr. Intake

Mallory Comp 9000 Laser pick up Distr. w/ MSD 6AL

175 Shot of Nitrous

Hooker Super Comp Headers 1 5/8 primary 3" collector.

all to a 4 speed top-loader w/ a Hays clutch & a 9" 4.11 Detroit locker on 26 x 11.5 ET Streets

I might have to switch rockers to accomodate the big springs. The duration on this cam isn't too crazy, so I think it might just fit. What do you guys think? I was once told I could go over .600 lift as long as I didn't go over 285@ .50. I'm well below that duration amount so I figure I can go a hair bigger on the lift. My questions are:

1.) Do you think it will fit w/out clearance problems.

2.) Do you think that this cam will work well with my 175 shot of nitrous?

Any extra advice is appreciated! Thanks for reading!

-Eric

use a dial caliper to determine your lift now if you are not sure. then try this to determine how much further you can go.

That's quite a bit more lift & duration than you've got now. A .550 lift grind will probably have a duration of about 230-240 @ .050, +/-. I personally wouldn't do it without claying the pistons to check for valve clearance, as big a step up as the roller is. BTW... I think your motor could use more carb and larger header primaries. I felt that I've been under carbed. I think I need an 800 CFM Mighty Demon (which I believe flow up to 825 CFM). I hope I don't need bigger headers because I just got these!!! I had the average Hedman headers and just got these bigger tube headers w/ the 3" exhaust this month!! Thanks for the input!
