If you all remember, last saturday I hurt the popwerglide in my car. Monday I pulled it up to KK's brother's house and we pulled it out and took it apart. It wasn't as bad as we had thought; it tore up the low gear band and the rest still looked just like when we stuck it together the time before. So we stuck a new band in it and stuck it back together. Tonight we went to test n tune and I made a couple of passes with it. The last time out, the car had gone 6.307 @ 109.2 mph with a 1.37 60' time. Since then, I changed plugs (went from autolite AR135's to NGK -9's), and put new wires on it. It liked the new band in the trans and the fresh plugs and wires. It responded with a best tonight of 6.24 @ 109.9 with a 1.35 60' time. I think it's a little fat, so I will lean it out a touch before this weekend's race. This motor will definately run in the teens before the year is over.

Not really. It should have been running these numbers while on gas. I shouldn't have had to stick it on alcohol to get it to run like this.

Last night was nothing to brag about. Since I thought it was a little fat, I took some jet out of the secondaries, and I put 2 more degrees of timing in it. However, it didn't really matter. First pass it ran 6.277, second pass it ran 6.286. First round I dialed 6.27 and got lined up with the current #3 points man. It ran 6.271 and I won that round. Second round, I dialed it down one to a 6.26 and had to run the same guy. This time, I didn't win the round as the car ran a 6.278 and he hit the tree hard. Since the car was consistant, I bought back and dialed it back to 6.27. I then had to run the current #2 points man. However, the car fell off a touch, and since I had a feeling I wasn't going to get around him, I touched the brakes going thru the lights hoping he was on a breakout pass. He wasn't . My car slowed to a 6.296, but judging from half-track times, it would have gone around a 6.284-5. Not enough to have gotten the win. My normal "alchy" routine after I lose for the night is to go thru the lights and leave the fans off to get some good heat in the motor (I normally turn them off right before I stage, then turn them on as soon as I hit the finish line.) I did that, but the motor didn't make as much heat as I thought it should have. I staged at 170*, crossed the stripe around 180*, but the motor was barely 190* when I got back to the trailer. I think I need to pull some jet out of the front now. It should have been at least 195* to 200*. The car is hooking good, but it always has. My 60' times for the night were in this order; 1.360, 1.363, 1.357, 1.363, 1.366. Not bad for a smallblock car with a 'glide.
