I drove 130 miles to the track and raced for the weekend and then drove a 130 miles back home. Everything was good at this point until I stopped at a traffic light and felt that the car wanted to die at idle. I gave it a bit of gas and turned on to the highway where it stumbled and missed all the way down the highway. I was only a couple of miles away from home so I did manage to make it home safely.
It feels like it's only running on 5 or 6 cylinders. Actually it kind of feels like a couple of wires are on backwards (there not). It's a 306 with new edelbrock rpm heads, Holley 650 DP, MSD billet distributor, MSD 6AL box and MSD wires and coil. Everything is fairly new. The car is basically undriveable. What should I look for? Could the carb all of a sudden act this way? What about the MSD box?

My oil pressure and temp are good- No change there. Also, I can't hear any knocking under the hood. Any ideas. Thanks.

if it is like a dead skip, you might pull the plugs and see if a couple of them look different from the others. make sure that you dont have a couple of plug wires on the headers. you might start it in the dark and see if you see any arcing anywhere. also make sure that you dont have trash in the needle and seat in the carb, that would cause it to flood. just grasping for straws here. try the above and get back with us.

Check your distributor cap and see if it has any crap built up in it. Then obviously plugs and wires. After that I'd check out the pushrods.

I have checked the MSD dizzy cap, And it still looks brand new... No cracks or crud. The rotor is in good shape aswell. All of the plug wires look good. They are all away from the headers. I will start it up in the dark and see if I see any arcing, Good tip thanks.

I will also start to pull the plugs, And see if any of them are fouled out. As for the carb, There is no signs of flooding, But I will take a better look at it and see if there is anything obvious. Thanks once again.

I would suspect too much fuel in the float bowls after you check the plugs and wires. My 289 2v acted exactly the same way, it was flooding because of a bad needle/seat assembly.

Well I finally got around to tracking down the problem. I removed all 8 spark plugs and noticed that they were all burning nice and clean. Carb checked out AOK. However, The timing was way out, So I decided to inspect the timing chain... Sure enough it skipped a tooth, Causing my ignition timing to go all weird. I am going to put in one of those Edelbrock true roller timing chains, And re degree my cam while I'm there.

Hopefully there is nothing else that I missed that is causing me problems. Thanks for all the help .
