Putting a 302 in my 68 coupe and Im in the proces of putting the motor together and now Im looking for cam and carb suggestions. The motor is newly rebuilt (1200 miles) to stock. As of now it will have a weiand dual plane, and long tubes. Trans is a C4 with hurst TC (stock +500rpm) and rear end is stock 2.80 and I might upgrade to like 3.25/3.50 next summer. I will be doing more driving around town than highway and looking for performance over mileage and id like a lopey idle. Thanks in advance

270s or 280h comp cams and a holley 1850 vac secondary carb 600 cfm. Dont forget the headers tri-y at least and dual exhaust, then 3.80 gears..
See its fun spending others money.
FYI I ran the 280H forged pistons flat tops and everything else metioned with 3.55 spooled rear 8 inch for years. I loved it
wish I had a higher stall mine is stock and I suffer because of it.

The 280H is way too big. For an otherwise stock engine, the 270 is maximum. It would work better with something slightly smaller. The 268 High Energy is a good cam for a mostly stock 302. It will have a lopey, but not radical idle, and it will run good.

If you go searching around different grinds, choose something with around 214-218 degrees of intake duration, maybe a little more on the exhaust. Keep the lobe separation between 110-112 degrees.

Good Luck!

You will not be able to use stock springs with pretty much any aftermarket cam. They are barely adequate for a stock cam with much less lift and duration. You might run something small, under 212@ 0.050" and less than 0.450" lift... as long as you don't plan to rev it over 5k rpm.

Look at some of the dual pattern cams, XE268H or XE274H.
More duration on the exhaust helps with stock heads.
