I will be needing to buy a timing set and timing cover sometime soon but I dont think I understand all the differences. i see double roller timing chains that call out a single fuel pump eccentric and a two piece eccentric. and then of course there are difference between different timing covers.

I want to run my engine as an old style 68 lookalike. drivers side water pump, V belt, mechanical fuel pump (high flow). So which timing chain set do I need and what timing cover to go with it?

Thanks in advance.
Phil

I will look through my pile of front covers and see if I have a C8 one.

Just went thru this on an 1988 5.0 block. Mine is for a 66 coupe, it has the roller timing chain from the factory. I used all 66 parts for my conversion. I had 3/32 machined off the one piece eccentric because it sticks out to far. The one piece eccentric is the Ford Racing version, much thicker than the two piece. The timing cover you need has the radiator hose outlet on the passenger side-a 289, or 302 cover will work. Get one that has a hole for the dip stick in it-if not you will have to drill it out. The timing cover and water pump bolts are a combination of the 88' and 66' blocks. Use the double roller timing chain (I used a new Cloyes - a double roller replacement). You will also need the oil slinger which fits on the crank before the timing cover goes on. The water pump you need is a standard flow ( 1988 is a reverse flow)
